Arsenic is a slow poison.

Yes, potentially one could kill another quickly if they made him ingest the poison in great quantity, but the results would be obvious, and the blame would easily fall on whoever cooked the meal.

A woman who finds hope in a few teaspoons a day in their husband's favourite soup is patient. Ready to endure mistreatment for a little while longer. All while they witness the slow decay. A weird illness that careful, everyone-could be contagious. To everyone else, the woman becomes the dutiful wife as their husband's cheeks sunken, their throat burns from constant vomiting and their heart whistles. What a good wife to stay by their husband's side as they die from this tragic illness. But when their husband becomes too weak to speak, and they look at their wife's smile-lips that might have been bruised by their own fist before they suddenly know. And it is too late.

Arsenic is a slow poison, and a mistreated wife is a patient woman. Vera was a curious student, and Mrs. Zabini was a good teacher.

Vera eyed the wallpaper in Malfoy manor carefully, it was a good place to find arsenic.

Anyone can start again, not through love but through revenge.

Vera traced her fingers along the wallpaper as she walked through the halls, heading towards the source of yelling.

"What have you done, Boy!" Lucius Malfoy's voice boomed from his office. Vera peeked inside to see Lucius Malfoy pacing around as Narcissa tried calming him down. "If you fuck this up, we are all dead! That girl is a ticking time bomb and the Dark lord will take his anger out on us if you mess this up, we must not fail him! You will marry her and don't you give her any chances of getting away!"

Vera pushed open the door causing Lucius's demeanour to change into fear and politeness as he stuttered, clearly embarrassed of being confronted.

Whether Draco deserved her help or not, never in a million years would she let Draco face his father alone. She'd protect him like how she wished to be protected.

"I'd like to speak to my fiancé."

Narcissa must have caught on to what Vera was trying to do because she visibly relaxed before giving her an appreciative nod.

"Come with me." Draco grabbed Vera's hand as he started to pull her upstairs.

As Draco and Vera made their way up the marble stairs, they heard a maniacal cackle that clearly belonged to Bellatrix.

"If she's here, who's guarding the gates of hell?" Vera rolled her eyes.

"Two new prisoners have arrived," This made Vera perk up as Draco kept a hand on her lower back as he led her inside his room. "One is a goblin and the other is Dean Thomas."
