Chloe didn't say a word the entire way to the car. Once we got there, I did the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 technique to help ease her out of her panic attack. Once she calmed down, we were on our way home. She was silent the entire way home. She just stared out the window and occasionally wiping her eyes with a napkin.
Chloe and I share a small house. A single story home, with a bedroom, bathroom, and a kitchen/dining room. After Nanda Parbat, we stopped by Star City so Chloe could say some things at her father's grave, not good things. After that, we decided to move to Los Angeles. Chloe didn't want to stay in Central City anymore, after everything that happened with Lee and Sam, and she didn't want to stay in Star City after learning of her father. We moved in together because I wanted to keep an eye on her, make sure nothing bad happened to her, and that just evolved into our current relationship.
Once we made it home, I carried Chloe inside and sat her down on the couch. I got a kettle on the stove. Our friends arrived shortly after. Once they came in, they checked on Chloe, who was unresponsive. I sat down on the couch next to Chloe, as soon as I sat down, she curled up into me. Our friends grabbed some chairs and sat down in front of us.
"Tyler, what was that?" James asked.
"She is afraid of clowns, I have seen this before, but nothing this bad."
"What do you mean?"
"She likes horror movies, I don't care for them, but one day I decided to surprise her, and I put it in It. We barely got 20 minutes into it before I noticed her starting to panic. I stopped the movie and she told me her story, and I then threw the movie away."
"Her story? What happened?" Jessie asked.
"Not my secret to tell."
"Just tell them." Chloe said softly.
"Are you sure?"
"No, but they will find out sooner or later."
"Ok. So years ago, back in high school, her class got to go on a field trip to Gotham." I explained, hoping they got the message. They did not.
"Ok, what happened in Gotham?" James asked.
"She met the Joker."
"Oh."
"I am not going into detail about what happened, but let's just say people died, and she got an up close look at the pale bastard."
"Holy shit. Chloe, I mean, just wow."
"She got some therapy after that, but it still haunts her." I said, thinking about my own trauma with the kidnapping and the Mirakuru.
"Ok, but what the hell was that?" James asked.
"What? I already told you."
"No, not Chloe, you."
"What do you mean?"
"Dude, you picked those guys up like they didn't weigh anything. I am certain you broke that machine. And you broke a door off its hinges by pushing it. How?"
This secret, I will not be telling them.
"I work out."
"Where?" Alina asked.
Before I could respond, the kettle started to whistle. I got up and poured Chloe and myself some tea.
"You guys want some tea?" I asked.
"Sure." They all responded.
I poured five cups of tea, put four of them on a plate, before putting some sugar in one, just how Chloe likes it. I brought Chloe her tea first. I put packets of sweetener on the plate with some small spoons. I brought the plate of tea and company to them and let them take what they wanted. After they took their tea, I took mine and doctored it up to how I liked it.
