Chloe and I didn't get much more sleep the rest of the night. With everything piled on top of one another, sleep didn't happen for most of the night.
But, we ended up falling asleep, but we only got an hour or two worth of sleep. We ended up getting up around 8, well, I did, Chloe stayed in bed for a few more minutes. After yesterday, with the clown and the Harpers, I didn't have the heart to wake her. So I made my way to the kitchen and brewed us some coffee. Although, I kept looking over my shoulder, expecting to see the two archers there again. As our coffee was brewing, I made Chloe and I a small breakfast. Just some eggs and toast. Nothing too fancy. But by the time the coffee was done brewing, Chloe was up, and she made her way behind me as I cooked, and wrapped her arms around my stomach.
"Morning." She grumbled.
"Good morning you too, Sleeping Beauty." I chuckled back.
"No jokes yet. Coffee first."
I laughed again before turning around to her and hugged her back.
"Well, the coffee maker just finished brewing."
"Mmm. Good. But just a few more minutes."
Chloe squeezed a bit tighter and laid her head on my chest.
"But your food is going to burn." I tried to explain.
"Fuck the food. Hugs and coffee first."
I laughed a little bit and gave up trying to reason with my tired girlfriend.
I guess I'm getting the burnt food then.
Chloe and I stayed there for a few more minutes, until we started to smell the eggs burn. How do you burn eggs?
I gently pushed Chloe off, and she made her way to the coffee maker. I turned back to the burning eggs and quickly took them off and put on the next set of eggs for Chloe. After Chloe poured herself a cup, she took a seat and began to drink. I finished cooking the eggs as the toaster popped out the toast, which I put in after I started the second batch of eggs. I grabbed another plate and put the eggs and one of the toasts on it and passed it to her. Afterwards, I poured myself some coffee. Chloe likes her coffee black. I discovered that if you put a packet of hot chocolate mix, it kind of tastes like a mocha.
"So, I am going off on a limb here, and I am going to say that we kept our guests last night to ourselves during lunch." I said after a minute of eating.
"That would probably be best. Also, I never asked you this, but did you really break a machine and a door back there?"
"I am not sure about the machine, but the zombie cut out jumped out at me, and I didn't have time for that, so I pushed it back in. I never actually checked to see if I broke it, but I believe I did. The door, absolutely. The double door shut on me, I am not sure why, but I pushed them back open, and one of them flew off its hinges."
"Well, when we went through it, the doors shut so a little scary show could go on around it. I believe the door was on a timer along with a sensor."
"Ah, I see. Anyway, what should we do until we leave for lunch?"
Chloe took a minute to think about it.
"How about we go get groceries, and once we get everything back here, we will head out to meet them."
"Got it."
I have been trying to get a job, a non mercenary job, but I don't really have a great resume. Chloe is an archeologist, which is part of the reason she was able to go to Tibet and Nanda Parbat almost two years ago, before all hell broke loose and Sam died. I always felt bad for not having a job to help with rent, but Chloe never complained. She understood, somehow, my life is complicated. Hell, a lot of people who knew me before, think I'm dead. And there are not a lot of jobs that would take someone with 'Mirakuru Mercenary' on the top of the resume. Now I still do some mercenary work, well, more of bounty hunting. Something that doesn't require me to kill someone. It pays well, but not often.
