Darwin Pov

"Mom, I'm home.." I spoke breathlessly, closing the front door behind me. I hoped I wasn't followed. My home was small, for a rich family, but it was home. Just me, my mom, and my dad. The walls were painted a light sage colour, with white appliances and furniture accenting it. My mother was in the kitchen, starting to cook some type of pasta for dinner.

"Hello dear! Did you see your father? He hasn't come home yet." She asked me as I walked in to the kitchen to greet her. She looked at me, her dark black hair in a short bob with her hair pinned out of her face. My mother wore a black t-shirt and a white skirt, covered up with a pink apron that read 'The mom of the house.'

The door opened again as I heard a soft set of footsteps and cloths ruffling. By the sounds of it, someone was home. "I'm back mom." I heard a deep made voice call out. I sighed and rolled my eyes at his voice. It belonged to my older brother Rowan. Like on queue, he walked into the kitchen. Rowan was about the same height as me, with medium length black hair and blue eyes. He wore a black turtle neck and some ripped jeans.

"Where were you, Rowan?" My mother asked, raising an eyebrow to him and turning to face him. He rolled his eyes before looking at his phone. "I was with Maxim. We were at the bakery." He explained before walking out of the kitchen, not wanting anything to do with the conversation. He and his best friend Maxim met about a year ago, and they've been close ever since. I sighed as I stretched slightly.

"Oh! I forgot to mention. I invited the Kiyoyamas over. Are you and Akane still friends? I heard she cut her hair from her father." My mother asked. I knew if I corrected her my father would have my head later so I sighed and nodded. "Yeah... I guess. But can I stay in my room for dinner?" I asked.

She furrowed her eyebrows before shaking her head as a firm no. "We are having guests, you are going to eat at the table." She spoke, taking the flame from the gas stove and extinguishing it by closing her hand. She then turned off the gas. My mother, was a fire Nymph. And because she mated with a human she had two earth nymphs for kids.

A few hours later I heard the front door open. I was getting ready in my room, wearing a white button up shirt and some black pants. I sighed, exiting my room and walking the sage covered halls. We had sage burning at all times to 'keep the bad souls away' according to my mother. I sighed when I heard Aira. "Aki... Akane came up sick so I apologize that they couldn't come. I'm excited to see lil ol Darwin and Rowan though~!" She smiled as I walked in. She was always like that around us. Always covering for Akira. We all knew he wasn't sick. He got in trouble. I could see it on her face.

"I'm not little." I broke the silence, causing her to look over to me and smile brightly. She walked up and hugged me, and I hugged back, smiling softly. "Rowan! They are here!" My mother yelled up the stairs. I looked at the tall man in black that stood behind Aira as she let me go. He was old, but definitely strong enough to knock someone out. Sure as hell was Akiras dad, Sir. I didn't know his name, he just only was called sir.

"Sir." I spoke calmly trying to keep calm. I was still unsettled about earlier. I couldn't stop thinking about it. Who was that... "Darwin. I see you stopped coming over." Sir spoke, his voice cold and hoarse. I nodded, taking a moment and turning around. My brother was leaning on the wall in the hallway, talking to Aira. They looked serious. My mother took Sir to the dining room as I walked up to the two.

"Akira got in trouble for skipping service again... for once he fought back against dad but... we were lucky his demon didn't come out and hurt dad..." I overheard Aira overwhelmingly whisper. I took a moment to process this. A demon? What. I couldn't believe it. Akira was a demon.
