Saturday, December 12, 1977. It was the night of the winter formal, the cause of Finn and Robins break up. All night as Finn got ready to pick up Donna he was supposed to be excited, god knows his dad was, but all he could think about was Robin. His dad was happy that he had finally done something with any girl for the first time in his life. Thankfully his dad wasn't there. He was instead in the next town over for something at work. Gwen was home but was going over to her friend Suzie's house for the night leaving him alone.
At the moment he was standing in the bathroom combing his hair and spraying his hair to make sure his curls where nice enough for Donna. Although he had no real interest in her, he still liked her. He didn't want her to have some horrible night. He starred into the mirror long and hard. He looked at his terrible blue suit he had to get second hand. He hated it. It was a powder blue color from hell. The jacket was a bit loose, but he liked the pants which where flared out. The shirt he had in was one of those white one with the frailly stuff going down the middle. It wasn't him. He wished Robin was with him.

The feeling of loneliness was only further expressed at the event. He was surrounded by Donna and all of her other friends at a round table. They were all stuffed into the school gymnasium which smelt vaguely of linoleum. The lights where tinted blue and a large mirror ball dangled in the middle over the makeshift dance floor.
"Do you wanna dance?" Donna asked him. He was in his own world only snapped out by her question.
He starred at her for a moment before reluctantly saying yeah. They walked over to where all the other students where and awkwardly slow danced, if you can call if that. The girl leaned in close to Finn's chest and rested her head on his solder. She held his hand and held his back as they danced, he the same. Her skirt flowed as she rocked. Finn tried his best to conceal his emotions by just closing his eyes and smiling, but it didn't work.
"Finn?" Donna asked "are you ok?" Great.
He opened his eyes and looked at her. She could obviously tell something was up. She was just puzzled at what. "Yeah, I'm fine" he said.
"Are you sure? You just seem off. I mean you barely spoke tonight" she stated. She was right. Throughout the whole night Finn didn't talk, only when being talked to and only replying in short answers.
"I just..." he let go of her hand "I like you a lot really, I just don't think this is right." He said. He took his arm off of her before apologizing once again then left. She followed him out of the gym.
"Finn!" She yelled as he walked further. "What the hell are you doing!"
"I'm sorry!" He yelled back leavening. She walked back into the gym. He walked along the side walk, the only light coming from the street lamps. He thought a lot about the event of tonight. He knew he had to apologize once more, but could only think about Robin.
The whole walk back he was thinking about Robin. He thought about how he just wanted to run up to him and tell him he's sorry for being a bitch the past two weeks and just hug him and never let go.
He approached his sad house and walked up the steps to the porch, noticing how all the lights were already on in the living room. He unlocked the door with the key before placing placing in back under the mat. He walked into the room to be surprised by Robin standing in his living room. The room was decorated with strings of blue and white streamers and balloons. He had strung up white Christmas lights around the room and hung a small mirror ball from the ceiling light. Finn smiled seeing Robin all dressed up in an darker blue suit with black details round the pockets and collar with matching shirt. He was holding a small bouquet of flowers. His hair was done which is was never. He had his hair down which allowed it to flow and wave, he had parted it slightly to side. Finn realized how beautiful it was.
"Hey" he said. Finn stood in the door way. "I know how much you wanted to go to the dance with me and I know that I can't ever make you as happy as you could but I wanted to try." Finn stood still as he looked around the room. Robin was worried he had made the wrong decision "Finny?" But before he could finish Finn came rushing towards him and took him in his arms. He crashed his lips onto the boys and held his face his his hands. He patented for a moment to apologize, saying sorry repeatedly between kisses. Tears streaming down his face as doing so. "It's ok" he says wiping away his tears from his face.
A moment later Robin steps away from Finn. He goes over to the record player that's probed up on a stool. He takes out a small 45 record and places it in the plate, switches it in, drops the needle, and waits for the music to start.
Finn recognized the song coming from the player as dream a little dream of me by Mama Cass and smiled. The sound was a bit dusty as he had dug it up from a box at a garage sale a month ago cause he remembered Finn saying he was fond of her. His mother had always told him that she and his father had danced to original song when they were young, so he thought that it would be a good choice for them.
"Would you like to dance?" Robin asked Finn holding out his hand. He smiled again and took it without hesitation. Robin held onto Finn as they rocked. Finn rested his head on robins soldier and closed his eyes. He wanted this feeling to last forever. They danced and danced and danced, restarting the record as they went on.
"I love you" Finn muttered as they danced. That was the first time he'd ever said it. Not just to Robin, but to anybody. He always thought when he would say it, it would be some crazy big moment, but instead he was dancing in his living room. He couldn't ask for anything better than that. "I love you too" Robin said back.
After they danced for a while they had moved to Finn's room. They had taken off their fancy suits in exchange for regular shirts and underwear. Finn sat on the bed with his legs crossed as robins laid on top of him. Robin fidgeted with the necklace he always wore as Finn ran his fingers through his hair.
"What is it?" Finn asked. He always say him wearing it but didn't know what it is.
"Its just a cross" he responded. He wasn't that religious but always wore it anyways, just incase there really was a god. He also liked it cause his father had giving it to him for his 10th birthday, since then he hasn't taken it off.
"Oh" Finn said going back to braiding robins hair for fun. Once he had braided Finn's hair in two pretty French braids, he want under the covers and prepaid for sleep. "Can you turn it the light?" He asked Robin to do so. He leaned over Finn's body and switched the lamp off and went back to his spot. He liked to sleep with nothing on but obviously can't right now, so instead he just took his shirt off and threw it on the ground. He kissed the back of Finn's neck and whispered a good night to his boyfriend.
