Maverick stumbled over to Sliders side. Slider was struggling to breathe.

"What the hell did you do that for!?" Maverick yelled as he pulled him up.

"I...I couldn't watch you die..." slider said as the two started to make their way down the hall. Blood trailed behind Slider.

Maverick knew this wasn't good. He stopped and tore his shirt and wrapped the wound. Slider was fading in and out.

"Slider... don't you dare do that on a mission again..." Maverick said as he got the notification Phoenix detonated the bomb.

"Phoenix! Cancel detonation!" He yelled into his intercom as he felt Slider getting heavier.

"What!? I can't! I mean-" she yelled for the group to help her reverse the detonation.

Maverick cursed under his breathe as he got to the hallway they got into the building through.

"Mav! You have 5 seconds!!" She said with panic.

Maverick got over to the door in the ground and opened it faster than he ever thought and lowered Slider through right as the bomb went off on the upper levels.

Rooster grabbed Slider and lowered him onto the ground and looked at him shocked. Maverick got down on the ground next to Slider.

Slider had blood trickling out of his mouth. "T-thanks for not leaving me in there..." Maverick teared up to the point his vision was blurry.

"Ron..."

Slider chuckled weakly and then coughed harshly. "You're... you're only calling me by my name now cause... cause I'm not going to make it huh..." Maverick lowered his gaze as he saw blood pooling underneath him.

The team all looked at each other shocked. Phoenix immediately tried to do medical treatment with Bob.

The two tried to stop the bleeding but nothing was working. Slider motioned them to stop and  teared up.

Maverick pulled his friend up and leaned against the tunnel wall and held his friend close to him.

The group all just sat down and stayed silent.

"Take... take care of my baby girl..." Slider said to Maverick quietly. Maverick held him close and teared up.

"Okay..." Maverick said.

"W-watch Ice for me..." he said as he grew heavier in Mavericks arms.

"C-come on Ron. Hang on... please..." Maverick said starting to cry. Slider looked at his ring.

"M-make sure Ice knows that the e-enemy knows about his peace project..." slider mumbled to Maverick.

He started to fade Mavericks voice out of his mind.

"I.... I should've listened to him..." slider said quietly.

The group stayed in the tunnel for a little while longer until Maverick got up. He laid Slider on the ground.

Maverick had blood all over his clothes. He looked at his watch and saw another message

Status Report...

Maverick answered.

Need transport from these coordinates.

He should've asked for backup. He held his head and knew this was... this was going to hurt.

"Anyone else hurt..." Maverick asked the group. No one said anything. He nodded and waited for their rescue.

A little while later, Agents came down the tunnel. Maverick motioned them to Slider. "I'll tell... the Director." Maverick said.

The agents nodded. They knew this was going to be bad. Maverick took Sliders ring off so he could give it Ice.

The group all walked over to their jet and sat in silence for the entire flight.

Maverick stayed away from everyone. They all knew he wasn't taking this well.

Maverick could barely breathe.

Ice stood in his meeting and was talking about his future missions for agents. He saw a group of people walking on the lower floor.

He ignored it and continued. The people all cheered and clapped for his plans.

He then stopped when he saw Maverick walking down the hallway. He was going to say something to the people in his meetings when he saw two Agents behind him in all black.

Ice froze as Maverick stepped into the room.

"May I speak to you Director..." Maverick said.

"You can speak to me right here Agent..." Ice said. Maverick sensed an anger in his voice. Maverick took a shuttering breath.

"The mission was a success..." he said as his voice broke. He took Ices hand into his and placed Sliders ring into his.

"Agent Slider fell in combat..."

Ice opened his hand and looked at the ring. He didn't say a word. He put the ring in his pocket and took a breath.

His hands shook slightly as he turned his back to the people there to listen. He turned back to them...

"When did he die..." Ice said. He felt himself shutting down.

"He died after your second status update request." Maverick knew he was going to be mad at him.

Ice glared at Maverick. "Why... why didn't I get a status update?" He said as tears formed in his eyes. "I..."

"I could have sent for back up... and he would've been right here..." ice said with anger and sadness in his voice.

Maverick lowered his head.

Ice stood and looked at the group. "I will continue this meeting... later."

He left the room and nearly ran into his office. He started to walk towards his desk but  stopped as he looked at his husbands ring in his hand.

He lowered his head and started to cry. He covered his mouth and muffled his cries of pain. He lost his husband.

"No... no no no..." he said as he walked over to his desk. He nearly fell as the information started to sink in.

He gripped the side of his desk and cried out in agony. He gripped his chest as all the memories of them flashed in his mind.

He sat at his desk and cried as he looked at a picture of him and Slider at their wedding. His heart broke in that moment.

His sobs became silent. He didn't know how he was going to tell their beautiful little girl. The little girl who had been through so much already.... That...

That her father is dead.
