The air around us seemed to stand still as we stared at each other in shock. I couldn't believe I had actually said that out loud. Aaliyah's eyes were wide, and I could see a blush creeping up her neck.

We both stayed silent for a moment, lost in our thoughts and trying to process what had just happened. You could cut the tension with a knife, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.

"Um, what did you say?" Aaliyah's lips parted, and her voice, a mere whisper, shattered the silence.

I struggled to find the right words. "Well, I...I...I," I stammered. A tight knot formed in my stomach.

Aaliyah looked at me with a serious expression, her eyes soft and filled with understanding. "Actually, you don't have to repeat it," she said, her voice low and soothing.

Gradually, she closed the gap between us on the couch. I could feel the coolness of her breath on my skin, each exhale sending shivers down my spine. My pulse quickened, a wild drumbeat in my ears.

"It's okay," she reassured, "I...know what you said. It just took a minute to register."

"I'm sorry, this is so embarrassing," I murmured, feeling my cheeks heat up even more. I couldn't bring myself to look directly at her. "I should go."

I started to get up from the couch, but Aaliyah gently pulled me back, not letting go of my hand.

"Beyoncé, wait," she said softly, her voice filled with a mixture of vulnerability and sincerity. "Please, don't leave."

I was conflicted. It was as if the world was holding its breath, waiting to see what would happen next.

"Stay," Aaliyah said, her eyes pleading. "Let's talk about this."

I was standing on the edge of a precipice, ready to leap into the unknown. But with Aaliyah's hand in mine, I found the courage to sit back down.

For a moment, she didn't say anything. Then, she took a deep breath and let out a soft sigh. "Beyoncé," she began, her voice barely audible, "I... I don't know what to say. I'm surprised, but... at the same time, I'm not."

"Wha-what do you mean?"

Aaliyah looked down at our intertwined hands, a faint smile gracing her lips. "I guess I've always felt that there was... something more between us. Something deeper than just friendship. And I've been feeling something...different...between us lately. I wasn't sure what it was, but now I think I understand.

She stared directly into my eyes.

"Your feelings...they're not one-sided, Bey."

My eyes beamed in shock. She hesitated before continuing.

"That night we first met at that party...I don't know. It's like I felt...an attraction to you that was hard to explain. You know, sometimes," she lightly chuckled, "sometimes I think about all of the times we've spent together over the years, especially that time you supported me in the studio and stayed with me until the sun came up the next day."
