Alan pov
I still lived with my parents in the same house and the same neighbourhood where I also spent my entire childhood, and as all our schools are pretty close together, I still walked the same way as I did for years. And still I was scared of one house which was on my way, just a few houses down the road. An old dark villa, a huge house with dark grey walls and a black roof, it looked like it came straight out of a horror movie, I never met the guy who lived there, I just heard things about him, and knew he was in some of my classes at university. According to the neighbours he was a psychopath, no friends, no family, living in the dark.
Some say he killed his family; others say they feared him and left at night without him. To this day I almost ran past that house, hoping I would never have to meet him.
At uni he was in my psychology class, he sat in the back, not talking at all, dressed in black, wearing a suit and tie. If I wouldn't know better, I would say he's in his forties. His hair was black and curly hiding half of his face, his eyes surrounded by dark circles, he never smiled or showed any emotion. He sat in the row behind me, I could feel his stare, it made me uncomfortable, I was glad when the teacher said we could go and gave our work back.
She handed it to everyone at the door. This guy walked past her but she didn't stop him. When I got mine, she called me.
"Oh, Mr. Bain?"
"Yeah?"
"You live in the bleeker street, right?"
"Yeah, why?"
"It seems like Mr. McAdams left and forgot his papers. Would you bring it to him?"
"Me?"
"Yes, you live close together, don't you?"
"Yes, but......"
"I'm sure he won't eat you.", she gave me his work.
"I hope so.", I left.
This afternoon I went to his house, my heart almost skipped a beat, I stood in front of the huge building, a vintage Bentley in the driveway. The door made of massive wood, I knocked, and the door opened with a screech. I tried to swallow the knot in my throat and entered.
I stood in a huge lobby, two staircases coming down on each side from a gallery, dark red carpets on the floor and stairs, a huge portrait of him in one of his suits with birds on it, holding a white pigeon, hanging in the middle of the lobby between the staircases. Then the heavy door fell back in its lock behind me.
