Nervously I knocked on the door, trying to apologize, I got chocolate, wine and flowers, hoping he would accept any of it.

"What?", he hissed when he opened the door.

"I'm sorry."

"You have the nerve to come here, after telling me that you think I'm a murderer and believe I would just forgive you?"

"I brought you gifts?", I awkwardly smiled.

"Cheap chocolate, flowers from the gas station and the worst wine you could find. Lovely."

"Mort, listen."

"I'm listening. You got one minute to explain."

"Okay, you should know that....that....I....."

"45, 44.....clock's ticking.."

"I was confused, my neighbour Karin, she's my moms best friend and she said..things about that I should be careful with you and....."

"20, 19.....Time's running out..."

"That no one knew what happened or why you are alone, and the others."

"Time's up, bye.", he closed the door, but I stuck my foot in the gap before it fell into its lock, almost crushing my bones.

"Wait! I'm terribly sorry. I am such an asshole; you were nice, and I treated you like shit."

"First of all don't you ever call me nice again.", he opened the door again.

"Second, I hate that you care about the neighbours' opinion so much when you said you don't, just like I hate those flowers."

"Worth a try.", I shrugged.

"No. And last but not least, who are you trusting more? The pathetic, selfish people you call neighbours or the man who tortured you?", he whispered again with his soft low voice, staring into my soul with his almost black eyes.

"I....I mean if you say it like that."

"Before you answer, remember I could've easily cut your throat and let your mortal remains disappear without a trace, but I didn't, you gained my trust within a few days, not many people manage to do so.", he placed his long skinny fingers on my chest where he carved his initials into my skin.

"Okay, very trustworthy."

"See? I need to feed my friends, I could use some help.", he smiled and walked in, waiting for me to follow.

"You still scare the living shit out of me; you know that right?"

"I do, and I will do everything to keep it that way.", I could hear him smile.

"Can I ask why?"

"To keep peasants like you from treating me like a toy, but mostly fun.", he mumbled the first part more to himself.

"Fun?"

"Fun!", he turned around, a huge grin on his face, showing all his teeth, madness in his wide opened eyes.

"Woah!", I stumbled backwards and landed on the floor.

"See? Fun.", he bent over smiling.

"We have a slightly different definition of fun."

"No, you're just very easy to scare. Do you think I'm scary?"

"Sometimes."

"Am I so scary that the blood freezes in your veins?", he came so close I could feel his breath, his smile vanished.

"If it froze you wouldn't have something to drink, would ya?", I kissed him.

"Huh, I like you.", he smiled and left me on the floor.

We went to the cage with the doves and fed them, some sitting on my hands, picking up the seeds, he allowed me to pet them, but always had an eye on me.

"Forgot to say, we need to clean here a bit.", he petted Paloma.

"We?"

"Yes, we. Don't think you could leave now. Hope you don't like smelling like bird shit later."

"I.....erm sounds great but.....I....need to help my mom.", I stood up and tried to sneak out.

Shortly before I reached the door of the cage, I got pulled back, his tie around my neck, leaning against him, I tried to pull it away to breathe but he was stronger.

"Where do you think you're going? Didn't you hear what I said?", I landed on the ground, his foot on my chest.

"You won.", but he just smiled.

"Get a shovel and put the sand in the trash can over there."

"Okay, I should stop trying to fight you."

"This is not fighting, but yes it would be better if you don't try."

About two hours later we were finished, and I went home.

I heard voices coming from the kitchen, and tried to avoid them, but I failed.
