A Way

Total Chaos had escaped from Jake and had apparently disappeared into the night. Jake was now on the ground with Rhinestone Cowgirl, going over a quick plan.

"Alright, you're going to be as quiet as possible. I'm going to lift you up into the air and we're going to fly up behind Lord Daemon, then I'll throw you at him, and you'll turn his suit into glitter. Got it?" He asked.

"Sounds dandy," Rhinestone Cowgirl chuckled.

Lord Daemon was way above them, gazing down at the destruction below. Floating there, arms crossed over his chest, yelling out orders. What kind of leader stays on the sidelines while his team is fighting? He wondered, as he glanced behind him and saw Wild Claw tearing a henchman's throat out. Clawing at his chest. Growling in his face.

A bit further than Jake would have gone, but definitely a better leader, in the sense of the word, than Lord Daemon. And he calls himself 'Lord' Daemon? What an egotistical jackass.

Jake shook his head and grabbed Rhinestone Cowgirl by her underarms. His wings splayed out behind him and he cast them down in one huge gust, that sounded like a bang off a fresh-hide drum. They were propelled up twenty feet into the air, his partner flailing her legs, muttering a prayer.

"You ready?" He asked.

Her legs stopped flailing, she bent her knees up slightly and nodded.

"Born ready. Actually, that's not true, I was a premie so--"

"Ok, I get it. Let's go," he interrupted.

She let out a huff of annoyance and stopped talking.

He flew an extra thirty feet into the air, ten feet above their target. They made like they were fleeing the battle, and took off, flying more than a hundred yards out of the way.

He looked back, Lord Daemon had taken no notice. He was still watching, waiting, doing nothing. Letting his army do the dirty work.

Jake clashed his wings together and they went forward, so fast he had to squint against the wind. The air was cooling down around him, there were clouds forming on the horizon. He could smell rain on the air, victory too.

Just a few feet behind Lord Daemon, Jake launched Rhinestone Cowgirl from his grip. She reached out and grabbed onto his tattered black cape. Started slipping down the piece of fabric, kicking her legs out to find a foothold. She let one hand go and clamped onto his arm. She was breathing hard, struggling to hold on. Lord Daemon swung his elbow back, and the curve of the silver hook clocked her right in the face.

The black cape disintegrated into black glitter which fell as a strange sort of snow, down to the ground below.

Rhinestone Cowgirl's eyes rolled into the back of her head, and she dropped like a felled tree.

Jake dove down, arms out, and caught her under her legs and back. Drifted back to the ground, and laid his partner down gently on the street. He put two fingers to the side of her neck, her pulse felt fine. He moved the brim of her hat up slightly and saw a dark bruise forming on her forehead, there was a decent amount of swelling there too. This is bad. Really bad. I have to get her out of the way.

An assortment of loose pebbles on the ground nearby began to tremble. They lifted up into the air and danced around each other.

"Is she alright?" An annoying, poorly done German accent asked.

Jake looked up and saw Total Chaos standing there, staring at Rhinestone Cowgirl.

"What do you care?" Jake snapped.

He stood up and spread his wings.

"I--"

Jake didn't let him finish. He body-slammed Total Chaos, sent his elbow right into his chest, and then gripped him by both his shoulders. Dug his thumbs right into the pressure points between the shoulders and neck. Thrilled in hearing him scream out in pain.
