The cold white lights flicked on as she walked through the basement, to the back left corner. It was chilly down there, goosebumps were running up and down her arms. She rolled down the sleeves of her blue all-weather coat and crossed her arms over her chest.
A new, more permanent Faraday cage had been constructed in the basement, since Mason could only have two things materialised at once.
Total Chaos had built a ten by ten structure from some sort of industrial-strength wire that had a hexagonal pattern and steel-reinforced wood. It'd only been three days since the battle, but it already felt as if an eternity had passed. Her wounds were healing quickly, she felt energetic and content. Everything was returning to normal at an abnormal pace.
She strolled over to the front of the cage and looked in at Lord Daemon, who was really now just Daemon, sitting in the corner with his knees bent to his chest, and his head bowed down.
"What?" He grumbled.
"Just thought I'd swing by, I wanted to talk to you."
"Why?" He asked.
She glanced over her shoulder at the small television mounted on the wall. The news was on. There was a delicately featured woman with black hair in a ponytail, rattling off the latest headlines. A new one popped up in the little white box; Three days since Lord Daemon's attack on Dusk Harbor.
"It's already been three days since a group of superpowered terrorists tried to destroy the city. The newly formed team of heroes, renegades, call them what you will, rose up against these terrorists, fought a grueling battle and won. As far as we know every villain is either dead or in jail. Today, the mayor is scheduled to hold a press conference, where he plans on thanking this team for their efforts," the lady said.
A half grin formed. She looked back at Daemon.
"We really liked that word they used to describe us," Olivia stated, "Renegades. In fact, the leader liked it so much that it's now officially our team name. We're going to announce it at the press conference. You like it?"
His blue eyes closed into slits, and he sighed.
"Please go away. You already won. Stop tormenting me." He grumbled.
"I'm not here to torment you. I'm here to listen. Tell me why you did it, what happened, from the beginning," she said.
He looked up at her and blinked a few times. Let out a groan. A few heartbeats later he let his arms fall to his sides, and he looked at the floor. She could hear the clock on the wall ticking away.
"It all started with the world's worst hangover..."
