Five Flowers

My first love was a daisy

Petals of the morning hazy

White in a field of yellow

Drinking the sunshine mellow

My second love was a sunflower

Stealing my heart every hour

I was told gold would never rust

Perhaps she was too blind to trust

My third love was a lavender

Engraving birthdays on my calendar

Dark is my world of violet

Counting every star the sky has lit

My fourth love was a bird of paradise

She was my reluctant sacrifice

For a world of scarlet flames

Lost in a room of crossed-out names

My fifth love is a prairie rose

Fighting for a door about to close

For every petal there's a thorn

And will the bud be reborn?

Daisy, sunflower, lavender, crane flower, rose

Five flowers I mistakenly chose

White, yellow, purple, orange, pink

When will my heart ever think?
