CHAPTER THREE ;

▃▃▃▃▃▃▃OCTOBER 1971
MORNINGS SUCK. Not to be dramatic or anything, but Layla would rather be swallowed by a whale than have to wake up at the time she does. I mean, who's idea was it to start schools at eight in the morning? An absolute dipshit, that's the answer. She was woken up at six, though she lay in bed for another half hour before she actually got up to get changed.
She walked over to her dresses slowly, still rubbing sleep out of her eyes, and pulled out a short black skirt. It was simple, no patterns or lace trimming, but it looked great with pretty much anything. She pulled on a plain pink top and black tights underneath and went through to the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth.
Her hair was an absolute mess, a small knot at the nape of her neck. She stared at her brush questioning everything she had ever done to her hair and how it had got this bad overnight. Huffing slightly, she got to work detangling it and making sure she didn't rip too much out. Once her hair was completely knot free, she put a thin pink headband in her hair and quickly did her makeup. She put on a thin gold chain and some faux pearl earrings and went to leave, grabbing her bag on the way out.
She rushed down to put her shoes on, not bothering to say goodbye to her parents and fumbled around her bag for her keys. It was slightly chilly outside, however the girl didn't have enough time to grab a coat and she hurried to school. She couldn't get a detention for being late, her mother would throw a fit if she did. So instead she was forced to walk in the cold October weather and hope she didn't catch a cold.
She got to school a few seconds before the bell, making sure to shove her tote in her locker and grab her books for first period. There was a couple making out against the locker next to hers, and she held in a grimace as they practically ate each others faces off. Gross, they could at least do that in the bathroom or parking lot. A football flew right past her face and the angry shout of the janitor followed her through the halls as she walked to her lesson, causing her to scowl at them. God, could people be more annoying?
She got to her math class and went to sit at her usual desk, just to see someone was already sat there. Scowling, she moved to the row behind and slammed her book onto the desk. The girl in her seat jumped slightly at the sound, turning around to give a dirty look, which Layla happily returned. It's stupid, why don't people just stay in the same seat the have been the whole year?
Mr Adley came around to collect homework, sighing and muttering every time he saw an incomplete sheet. He gave her an annoyed stare when she gave in her attempt, shaking his head slightly. Honestly, who even cares about math? I mean, nobody is going to ask you what the circumference of a circle is in a job interview, so why does it matter. Absolutely useless.
The girl was in an awful mood for the rest of the day, glaring at her desk during lessons and hardly paying attention. She was sure it wouldn't matter anyways, she could always do it at home if she got too far behind...
That was a complete lie, anyone who knew Layla knew that she would ignore it completely, unless it was something she wanted to do.
By the time it got to lunch she was practically on the verge of tears, and she wasn't even sure why. It wasn't as though things had gone awful, everything was just annoying her for no reason, either somebody looking at her wrong or her pencil going blunt. She spent the afternoon in the end cubicle smoking and spraying a cheap body spray once in a while so nobody would smell the smoke.
She knew it was bad, but at the same time she simply didn't give a fuck. It wasn't like anybody would stop her, her parents both smoked and she had some faint memories of her grandfather smoking, however she couldn't be sure since it had been nine years since she had seen him. It wasn't a regular thing, anyways. Once or twice a week at most.
