------Jason's POV------
I slammed my locker door shut, preparing to head to history to start our new unit. I was glad to be done with debate, what with everything that happened between me and various members of the Drama Squad.
It had been a month since Lucas and I fought. In that time, I’d taken to hanging out with Evan more, and while we both missed Brandin, we’d finally been able to make some more memories. We’d spent an afternoon running around Rockefeller Center, looking at all the shops, trying to grab spare change from the fountains, avoiding the mall cops trying to bust us for taking the spare change. It was a good afternoon.
I’d also spent more time with Thor and Peter (who I was still convinced was secretly Spiderman). I’d kind of felt bad, like I was disrupting their private time, but they’d insisted on it. Peter had basically adopted me, saying, “You’re my child now. Jason, I am your father now.” So they’d taken me with them to movies, or play video games at Peter’s apartment. Peter would step out every so often, using some fake excuse like, “I have a dentist appointment,” or “My grandma fell and she can’t get up,” then leave me and Thor to our own devices.
We’d mess around for a bit, order takeout or something, and when Peter would show up again we’d act like nothing happened. Just go along with it, wait for him to say something. Everytime I’d bring this up, Thor would brush aside my concerns, saying Spiderman is fake. I couldn’t tell if he was messing with me or anything, but whatever the case, it was a good distraction from my life.
I couldn’t think of Lucas without thinking of the talk we had. I knew we were in a better place then we were before, but I still couldn’t bring myself to forgive him. My therapist was trying to help me past it, but I couldn’t forgive Lucas without forgiving my father, and I wasn’t willing to even try.
I walked into Mr. Matthews class and did a double take. Somehow, every seat in the class was taken except for two right next to each other, smack dab in the middle.. And you’ll never guess who was missing.
“Sorry I’m…” Lucas said, walking in, before trailing off. “...late.”
“Is this a joke,” I asked nervously, looking at Mr. Matthews.
He put his hands up. “I just work here. Now do you mind sitting down so I can start my class?”
I sighed. “I guess.” I moved over to sit on the left, which was between Riley and Zay. Lucas sat on my left, Evan on my right. Riley turned around to smile at Lucas, and then surprisingly, she smiled at me.
I was instantly suspicious. “Why are you smiling at me?”
“Can’t I smile at everyone?” Riley asked.
“It’s kinda hard to argue with that logic,” Lucas pointed out. I narrowed my eyes at him and looked away, missing him pull out his phone.
