Chapter 17: Training The Baby Crows

Author's POV

As training camp continues on, Rei eventually befriend with some players from other schools (Bokuto and Kenma) and with this fact alone is enough to bring even the strict Ennoshita to tears. 

"They grow up so fast." 

"Bastard we're the same age!"

Practice went well even with Kageyama's part. 

"Senpai!" the blueberry head called for Rei who grinned already in position as he took a huge leap and spiked the ball to the other side of the net. The loud smack resonate through the court earning surprised looks from the other students in the court with them. "One more Tobio-chan!" Rei called out in excitement and the first year kept throwing more tosses over to his, even taking tips from Rei as well.

"How about doing this instead..." 

Kageyama listened to his advice and took several mental notes. "If you're tossing to me do it like this." Rei took the volleyball and threw it up in the air as Kageyama watched the ball almost loomed over to the other side of the net. "Huh? But... isn't that risky?" he asked in bewilderment but Rei just laughed him off.

"Listen here Tobio-chan, in a game, the more in pinch I am or the more I am cornered the more fun it gets for me. Risky tosses? Just throw them at me! You can always count on me and the tangerine in the court." 

Kageyama just nodded silently at his words while the grip on the ball tightened. 

"Say, are you and Hinata not talking to each other still?"

"..."

"Oh well, but you have to sort things out with each other though? I mean, the team can't play well without the power duo." Kageyama's face flushed at the compliment. "Sure..." 

The two continued their practice until dinner time.

"Yo! Rei-chan!" Bokuto waved his hand over towards Rei just as he was looking for a table to sit at. The silver haired grinned excitedly as he walked over their direction and sat next to Kenma who was busy with his Switch as always. "Oi! No gadget while eating!" Kuroo nagged and snatched the Switch from Kenma's hand earning a grumble from him. 

"You haven't even touched your food Kenma-chan." Rei poked the boy on the cheek as he grumbled in response. "Cute." he smiled and the complement of course didn't miss his ears as Kenma coughed out after taking a spoonful of rice. Kuroo immediately shoved the cup of water to Kenma earning a loud cackle from Bokuto.

"How's training with Kageyama-kun going?" Akaashi asked Rei who basically downed his food, "Other than the fact that the two are still beefing with each other everything is going fine." answered him. Everyone at camp basically knew about the fight between the two first year of Karasuno, the two weren't even glancing at each other during practice as well. 

The tension made the team feel uncomfortable and awkward.

"Well, I hope they make up soon. I want to play with them again!" Bokuto exclaimed excitedly. 

"Bokuto-san, hurry up and finish your food or else it gets cold." 

"Oh!"

Night time came, some of the players are still in the gym practicing while others went back to wash up and get dinner. As soon as he was done, one blonde guy grabbed his stuff and made his way out of the gym. This of course, was noticed by our main protagonist.

'Tsukishima always leaves the gym first and doesn't even bother stay back to practice more. Well, other than Bokuto and Kuroo dragging him for practice with them.'

Rei watched his lonely back walking further away from the gym before a flash of green ran past him while shouting a loud, 

"TSUKKI!"

The second year watched in amusement at the two friends and decided to leave them for privacy. Whatever made the usually quiet and timid Yamaguchi to suddenly scream out his name is probably important.

"Oiii."

Rei turned his head around and was greeted by the annoying grin from Kuroo. "I'm not here to pick a fight. Want to help us toss? Tsukki left before we could even drag him." and just as Rei was about to tell him to fuck off, a hyper Lev popped out of nowhere and smiled widely when he spotted the #13 Karasuno.

"Rei-san! Let's play together!"

Having a soft spot for hyper and energetic people, Rei sighed and just let the 6'0 first year drag him inside the court.

Less than 10 minutes later a familiar blonde stepped inside the court earning curious looks from the three blockers including Rei.

'I have to thank Yamaguchi later.'

"There's something I'd like to ask you. May I?" Tsukishima stepped towards them as Bokuto, Kuroo and Akaashi listened to him. Rei had Lev in a headlock as the silver haired struggled to escape from his clutch, he just stayed quiet letting Tsukishima say whatever was on his mind.

"R-Rei...kun?" 

Rei glanced down and noticed how blue Lev's face was and immediately let go of him. 

"Oops."

He didn't want to get into the details but that night there was some changed in Tsukishima that the whole team noticed. 

"Hey, four-eyes!"

"It's Tsukishima."

"Hey, Tsukishima!"

"Is volleyball fun?" 

Tsukishima took a second to answer and answered nonchalantly, "No, not really."

He said it with no hesitation!

"Maybe that's because you suck at it?"

"Pfft." Rei almost bursted out in laughter during the serious moment. Tsukishima couldn't help but to glare at his teammate.

But whatever Bokuto was telling Tsukishima, Rei took his words to heart as well. Even now, he still has some hesitations with the sport. 

Did he really enjoy it? 

Is this really for him?

Many thoughts went through his head but with the help of the other members he slowly gets to see what others see in the sport.

"Okay! I answered your question, so jump a few blocks for me!"

"Now, now, hurry, hurry."

Bokuto and Kuroo pushed the stunned Tsukishima as Rei waved at him. "Cool! More players!" the raven-haired clasped his hand together.
