A/N sorry this is so late, I had the end of the school year work rush but it's over now ( :
My eyes slowly open and I find myself lying on the ground. I clutch my skull and feel blood coming from a wound on my head. At first I didn't think I could move but I slowly rolled over to one side and got into a sitting position. My head throbbed and it felt like I had head butted a brick wall, but harder. I looked around for a second and remembered the scene that unfolded just hours ago. Boy was I lucky today, my so called buddy must have knocked me out cold because when I looked around, there was no sign of anyone or that anything had happened.
The man who struck me in the head was gone along with the girl who ran off but I could see her accomplices sprawled out only yards away. My shoulder stung from the injury she had given me but I pulled myself to my feet. I looked at the crate that used to have loads of supplies in it, empty. "Dammit!" I thought, my bag was missing too, the only thing left was my shovel a few feet away. I sluggishly picked it up and slung it over my back. I couldn't really think of where to go now. My first thought would've been to San Francisco but the man already told me that it was blocked off. Suddenly I felt a breeze, no a wind, no a tornado! I looked up to see a helicopter flying low overhead and It looked like it was coming in for a landing.
Forgetting my pain, I started running toward the chopper as I saw it go down out of sight behind some houses. I crept through one house and hid under the windowsill to get a better look. The chopper was grounded now and a bunch of troops started unloading. They all had a tan colored urban camo on and gas masks concealing their faces. They each held some kind of AR while one had a bolt action rifle.
"They're packing some serious firepower" I thought to myself. A man still in the chopper yelled down to the soldiers, "remember, your mission is to secure the governor. He should be in a bomb shelter on the east side, don't be afraid to use deadly force if the locals get too friendly, you got it!" "Yes sir" they all replied in unison as the chopper started to take off. Once the chopper faded into the distance they started to talk to each other. "Do we even know who dropped the bombs?" " I don't think anyone does, the way I heard, whoever it was jammed our signals long enough to let the missiles get into the U.S., and by then we couldn't shoot e'm down." "So we didn't see it coming?" "Not one bit, they say eight other cities were hit around the country.
" ,The other marine, or I assumed he was, thought about that silently for a while. As he was about to reply, they were called in by the leader with the sniper and he told them that it was time to head out. I cautiously followed them for about a mile when one of them stopped the other. "There, over there" he pointed to a square with a few decimated building lining it, I only assumed that he was talking about the bunker. I crept from building to building, keeping sight of them all the while. Suddenly I heard a crunch, I looked down to see that I had stepped on a plate. One of the men stopped in his tracks and started to slowly turn. I'm so screwed I thought, I was about to be caught in the act.
Suddenly I felt someone grab me and the next moment I was pulled off of my feet and into a nearby doorway. The soldier looked back, tilted his head, paused, and then turned and walked on. I turned around to see who had tugged me into the house. "Hi my names jack the man said", he had short blonde hair and was carrying a backpack around one shoulder. "You could've been turned into Swiss cheese" he said, "I hear they shoot on sight". Thanks I grunted as I stood up and brushed the dust off of my clothes. "Why were you following them?" He said. "I heard that they were heading for some bunker so I thought I could scavenge some supplies from it.
"You know you're the first person I've met out here that isn't looney." "Well that makes two of us" he chirped. We both decided that we should keep following them, we trailed them for the rest of the day but there were no big finds, it seemed that they were wandering like us, without knowing exactly were to go. Suddenly they stopped and started talking. Their voices were muffled from the masks and their voices almost sounded like they were talking over a radio so it was hard to make out. I think one of them was getting a transmission, this was all I heard.
"He's dead?! He didn't make it to the bunker after all? Are you sure you got the transmission right?..... Well then Change of plan boys. Our new mission is to exterminate any survivors in the sector, all survivors are considered contaminated and contact may be deadly. We can't risk them hopping the fence." "What the hell, I didn't sign up for this!" "You did now, it's them or us, the chopper won't pick us up until we've cleared the area, so let's get moving. Turns out the governor never made it to the bunker, so he's part of the atmosphere now." Just then I heard the loudest sound I have ever experienced, the sky flashed and a boom shook the sky. A wind like a hurricane shook the ground and the sky turned red.
Suddenly none of us were on our feet. I was tossed into the air and slammed into the ground then flung upward again as I was chucked into a building knocking the wind out of me. The world was spinning and hit the ground again. I looked across the street to see one of the soldiers holding onto a telephone pole for dear life. That was when I blacked out as a brick flew into the side of my head and I lost consciousness.
A/N was it good?
