Flashing lights from the photograph, police cars surrounding the area of the accident, red and blue lights, and sirens to be heard, forensics walking around with their equipment getting details of all the evidence, the sound of masking tape being ripped off the roll and outlining the shape of the body. Number cards were placed around the accident area, stating the evidence. Crime tape surrounding the whole area, media behind the video trying to get photos, using their recording devices to try and get any information on the accident to get an exclusive report, are being held back by guarding officers against making sure they don't ruin the crime scene. It is a chaotic scene with many voices heard from the reporters and officers, the sounds of all the sirens, and the camera clicks.

Meanwhile, I am getting interviewed about what happened on the night of the accident. I am sitting in a cold room waiting, and I feel like I am being interrogated; it makes me impatient. I gazed at the clock, which was ticking so slowly on the wall. I heard the door opening, and I looked around. A figure walked in, a woman in her late forties or fifties dressed in a black dress with dark red hair wearing a badge. ''Detective Fiona Crawford, nice to meet you.'

Detective Fiona Crawford: Misha Parkes, is that your name?

Detective Crawford asked me as she put the recorder on for some evidence. I felt a bit uncomfortable in the interview because I felt targeted, and the room was small, so it felt overwhelming.

The recording began.

Interview 250402

Detective Fiona Crawford was investigating what happened to Sofia Keegan.

Misha: Yes, that is correct. I nod.

I prepped myself for what questions they had to ask me, and I was not holding back. Detective Fiona Crawford: We would like to ask you some questions about the murder of a young girl named Sofia Keegan. What happened that night? Mrs Crawford asked me as she was taking notes.

The blinding lights in the interview room are harsh on my eyes. The overwhelming attention she is getting from the officers who are interviewing her, the security cameras flashing red in each corner of the room, show that they are recording and watching her. The technical devices, such as the voice recorder and the camera on the tripod catching every little movement, glance, and word she says, overwhelm her. I am anxious, a sick feeling bubbling in my stomach, not the friendly type where you get butterflies, but the type filled with dread.

Detective Fiona Crawford: Miss Misha Parkes, I would like you to try and answer some questions. She sat directly in front of me, flipping over a folder filled with photos and sticky notes.

The detective repeatedly asked as I stared into space, trying to block everything out. As I stared into space, trying to block everything out, I tried to hold back my emotions, but they saw right through me. I couldn't hide the fact that I was upset. The detective, tapping her pen, waits for me to answer all her questions about Sofia. It was evidence. Everything was in there, everything that the police knew of, but there wasn't ready for what I was about to tell them.

Detective Fiona Crawford: Would you like to start from the beginning?

I started to tell the detective what had happened.

Flashback

All I can remember is that we were singing, we were dancing, and we were drunk. That is what I only can recall. We were in the middle of nowhere. Well, that is what we were thinking anyway. Was it Halloween night? Could anything happen?

It felt like nothing had ever happened between us, and it was like we were best friends again; the past was dead and buried. We talked about how she got me with a boy named Jamie and then got him to break up with me; however, that was in high school. Sofia and I did not have the best friendship, but she apologised for making my school years a living hell.

Detective Fiona Crawford: What do you mean you did not have the best friendship?' Ms Crawford asked me.

Misha: Well, we did not because that is the truth.

Detective Fiona Crawford: Why Miss Parkes?

Misha: No comment, Mrs Crawford; if you listen to what I am about to tell you, you might understand" I did not respond to her question. So, I continued...

Flashback

Sofia decided to put music on her phone, and she began to sing at the top of her lungs. She was slurring her words a bit, and I was finding it difficult to communicate with her because she had headphones in. Plus, it was pouring down with rain and getting louder and heavier by the minute. We were both wearing angel and devil costumes for the Halloween party. Both of us were not wearing coats or anything to keep us warm; they smelled of too much alcohol. We started singing along to the music playing on Sofia's phone. Dancing like no one was watching.

Detective Fiona Crawford: Were you drunk, Misha? Crawford buttered in again. But I ignored her, and I continued talking.

Flashback

She had one too much tonight. I was not as drunk as her, in any case. Alisha could barely hold herself up, leaning on me and walking back home. It was not raining when we left the Halloween party about 20 minutes before the party ended. But because the downpour was so heavy, it was challenging to see where we were going. The wind was picking up so rapidly that trees fell one by one, obscuring the road and our vision to see. The road is never-ending and will go dark shortly; it will turn midnight, and we need to get home before it gets dangerous.

Detective Fiona Crawford: But why didn't you turn back if you knew you were in danger?" Crawford asked.

Misha: Because there was no way back, we were lost, that's why. But I knew that something was not right. It was different. I was nervous, and I could feel my stomach turning to make me nauseous. I had an eerie feeling that the weather was getting heavier and more substantial. We both looked up at the atmosphere, which looked like a deadly storm ahead.

And that is when I said,'' We need to get back home fast NOW!" I shouted and grabbed Sofia's hand, and started to run. Even though our friendship was on the rocks, I would do my best to protect her. Sofia and I had been friends for years. We grew up together, but our friendship turned when she turned against me when she got into a relationship, and since then, she has had it in for me.

Flashback

"Look at the rain!" Sofia responded. "Sofia, keep running; it is not safe!" My voice was in a high tone because I was anxious. I am the eldest of both of us. Sofia is like a sister to me. However, she does not like it when I am right, and she is wrong. Sofia rolled her eyes at me like she does all the time. Some things never change. "I can hear you, Misha!" Sofia ran after me. Suddenly a car came around the corner at full speed, and Sofia was standing in the middle of the road. It all happened so fast that I automatically jumped in front of Alisha and screamed: "WATCH OUT!" The car must have hit me because it happened in a flash. Sofia must not have heard me screaming because she would have saved me. I felt dizzy; I must have blacked out. Detective Fiona Crawford: So, you protected Sofia from getting hit, correct?

I took a big breath because I could tell that Detective Crawford was insisting that I had something to do with Sofia's death. However, I tried to save her. Eventually, I answered Detective Crawford feeling under pressure and said I wanted to keep her, but I did not see her behind me getting hit, and I blacked out. Detective Fiona Crawford: "What happened next?"
