All I could hear was a loud beeping sound that woke me up. They echoed in my ears; when I opened my eyes, all I could see were bright lights beaming down on me. I felt powerless, and my whole body felt like a dead weight. I could not move my hand, my head, or my body. I slowly started blinking, desperately trying to open my eyes. Where am I? What is going on? I begin to panic. I looked down at myself; I noticed that I was wired up to a drip. I cannot remember anything. The doctors and nurses were bringing me to a hospital ward. They put on an oxygen mask to help me breathe, but at once took it off because I didn't like them.''Misha, I would like you to put the oxygen mask back on to help you breathe," a nurse asked me.
What has happened to me? I kept asking myself. I cannot remember anything. As I kept trying to open my eyes, my vision became more transparent and not blurry anymore. I tried to open my mouth to speak, but there was no sound. Nobody can hear me. "Hello, why am I here? "I was saying. I looked around to get my bearings and noticed that I was connected to a heartbeat check and other machines hooked up to my body. Breathing tubes pumping me with oxygen helped me breathe and stay alive. I have concluded that I am in the hospital. I tried to unconnected myself from the wires so I could escape.
My body ached with pain, and my muscles were sore all over; it felt like I had run a hundred miles. When I looked down at myself, I noticed my arms were all scratched up with cuts and bruises, and I could not even remember the paramedics bringing me into the hospital. There were questions that I wanted to ask, but none of it made sense in my head.
''Hello, can anybody hear me?'' I feel like screaming, but there's no sound, and all I can hear are the machines that are beeping continuedly. I close my eyes quickly after opening them. I am in a nightmare, and I will wake up any minute, and it will be over. The questions run through my head. Why am I in the hospital? I open my eyes again. Doctors and nurses were talking.
''Misha Parkes is not going to recover from this,'' the doctor said.
''Doctor Gilbert, how are we going to tell her? She needs to be told that her Mr Andrew has passed away and her friend too, and I feel sorry for the poor girl,'' Nurse Toya Fields says. ''Look, she has been in a coma for months, and she has memory loss from the accident so that it won't be easy for her.'' Doctor Gilbert answers. Did I hear that right? I am in a hospital. I say to myself.
''She was the only one that survived.''
I opened my eyes again. My head was pounding. ''I am here, you know,'' I say, looking around. I do not know why I am here. I cannot remember anything. I can feel tears rolling down my face. What has happened to me? ''Misha, you are in the hospital, '' I hear someone talking to me in a calming tone. I blink, and my eyes are adjusted slowly. The room was blurry. ''Where am I, nurse?'' I ask. 'You are in hospital; I am Nurse Toya Fields. I will be looking after you'' answering my question.
''Hospital?'' I asked.
I sit up as I want to ask another question. ''Misha, you have been in a tragic car accident,'' Nurse Toya says, and I look at her, confused. ''You have survived; you are safe here.'' I do not remember anything about an accident. I was about to speak, but she carried on talking. ''We are going to look after you, okay?' '' Where are my mum and grandad? I ask. Nurse Toya avoided telling me the truth. I could sense that something was wrong. She exhales and says, ''We cannot contact them yet, but unfortunately, your friend and your father have.'' she says.
''My friend and my father have what?''
''They lost their lives.'' ''They are dead?'' I ask.
''I am so sorry, Misha,'' Nurse Toya said. ''My father!'' I shout. She glances towards the ward door. ''I want my mum,'' I say as I tear up.
