Luckily, the hospital was still open for emergencies. I walked through, and the nurse behind the receptionist caught me. "Can I help you?" she asked, her tone changing because she recognised me. "I am trying to find someone...." The woman had glasses on; I realised she was from last week. She is called Jane Hopper. I am tempted to ask her about the hospital, but I don't. What will happen if I tell her who I am?
"I am called Misha Parkes," I say. She gasps.
She asked me for my name again and stood there frozen, not saying anything to me. "Miss Parkes, you work here, don't you? Sorry I did not recognise you without your uniform on" She smiles and looks down at the computer screen. "Ah yes, you have a shift at the morgue tonight." Wait, what she thinks that I work here now? "Wait here; I'll get your uniform" she grabbed the uniform from behind her, and I followed her down a dark grey corridor. She has not asked for any ID.
She left me at the entrance of the morgue. "Enjoy your first night at the morgue ", she smiled as she walked off. "Wait, Jane!" I speak. She walks back to me. I asked her, "Do you know Sofia McKeegan, who died? "I tried to make it seem like I did not know her. "Yes, the girl who sadly died in that car crash. According to my notes, her body is still in the morgue until her funeral service is held," she says, "Anything else," even though I did not say anything. "No, thank you for helping me out. I think I can take it from here ", I smile as I push the door open.
Here we go again. I am entering the morgue. This room gives me the chills. I feel on edge. I would not say I like this at all. I heard the door locking behind me. I changed into the clothes that the receptionist gave me. I still cannot believe that she thinks that I work here. But then I freeze. I looked at the door. I am terrified. I entered the morgue, wondering if cameras were watching me. I cannot explain to her what has happened so far and that I am solving a mystery.
Eventually, I had the guts to open one of the body freezer doors, and I saw Hollie's corpse lying there; I could feel my tears rolling down my face. Her eyes were open, and in her mouth, shivers were coming down my spine. It is midnight and seeing her body cold as ice freaks me out. I slowly exhale, and I breathe out again. I could not stop crying. I cannot see her like this anymore. It haunts me. Will I ever get justice for her?
Before I know it, I have another flashback again. As I held Hollie in my arms, she took her last breath. I could not save her. I fall to the ground by her body in the morgue crying my eyes out. "Misha?" My eyes at once opened. Was I dreaming? Where am I? "Misha?" "Misha?" I kept hearing voices. "Leave me alone!" I shot upwards in the hospital bed, breathing heavily. My name is echoing and bouncing off the walls. "You in the hospital!" I felt dizzy because I sat up too quickly; the room was spinning.
"Did someone say my name?" I asked as I got up from the floor. I looked at the corpse's face and felt the eyes were watching me. I hear this voice say, "I am watching you!" I ran out of the door.
I tried to get my breath back when I ran out of the door. I could tell it was still nighttime because all the lights were usually on throughout the day. What time is it? Hopefully, it is 6.00 am. There was no one at the front desk, and I couldn't see Jane Hopper anywhere. She knows something about Sofia and must know me although she thinks she works here.
Suddenly I heard footsteps, so I quickly hid behind a wall and ran into a room that looked like an office—voices echoing outside the closed door. I somehow felt safe. I walk towards a desk and sit down on the chair. I am tired. I have not slept for hours. I need to get some sleep. However, I will not give up until I find the evidence. Who is the stalker? Someone is watching me. Sofia might still be alive, as I keep saying to myself and everyone around me. And I was not the one that caused the accident. I logged into the hospital system and got my folder out of my bag. My eyes flicker threw the documents on the computer. Then I looked back at the files that were in my folder. I continued to research the accident. I remember everything about Sofia McKeegan. She was not my best friend. She was my enemy.
Looking back at the computer screen, I found a file that had not been opened but had password protection. I tried and worked out the password—Henshaw Medical's password was incorrect. I must try another password. Password: I AM WATCHING YOU! The computer let me into the file. I opened it, and it had Information about all the patients treated in this hospital over the years.
I searched for my name, and it said that I was admitted to the hospital on the 31st of October 2002; Misha Parkes d bleeding out of the brain caused by her banging her head on the ground. According to the hospital's document, I was in a coma for days. Dr Gilbert has never told me that. I read on scrolling through the paper. It says that I am brain-damaged and paralysed from the accident. Well, that is a lie. This is all fake information about me. My phone rang, and it was Detective Fiona Crawford. I answered the call. "Hello, Misha. Where are you? "she says. "I am in the hospital, and someone thought I worked here. "I say. "I thought you were at home. I ordered you a taxi as I told you to get out of there," she demanded. "I want to get the evidence about the case, "I say. "Look, I am coming to pick you up from the hospital and bring you back to the station with me," Detective Fiona Crawford said, and she hung up the call.
