I lay on my bed, refreshed with a book in my hands. The fire in the fireplace crackled loudly, the light gently casted across the wood floors. The lamp next to me was on, providing light for the words on the page.
A pair of footsteps in the hall caught my attention. I quirked a brow, hearing them come closer and closer. No sibling of sin should be out, so I was curious to know who it was. Soon enough, my question was answer.
Without a knock, the door flew open, "I got cookies!" Swiss announced, happily crossing the room to where I sat. I sighed, placing the book face down against the covers.
He wore his familiar grin, placing himself on the edge of the bed. "And what if I had been changing?" I prompted, glancing towards the now closed door. He shrugged, pushing the plate of cookies towards me.
"Not that alphabet book, I hope?" He teased, snatching the book from next to me. He studied the cover for a moment before placing it back down where it was.
I tilted my head in annoyance, my eyes narrowing slightly onto him. How in the world did he have so much energy still? "What do you want, Swiss?"
"Why, to share my cookies, of course!" Somehow, his smile grew even greater. My gaze fell onto the cookies. After contemplating for a moment, I reached towards the plate. I pulled down the fabric covering my mouth, taking a bite out of a chocolate chip cookie, the taste melting in my mouth. I couldn't help but express my satisfaction, my eyebrows raising.
"Shit." I nodded, covering my mouth. "That's good."
"You think?" A cocky smirk creeped along his face. I nodded, and when I looked up, I rolled my eyes upon seeing his expression. He chuckled quietly, glancing around the room. I left him to his observing, reaching for another cookie.
I didn't know why he was here. It was around midnight, and even I was about to try going to sleep. However, this ghoul seemed to be up and running, although the ritual usually wiped everyone out. I know I sure was. He seemed content to just be there, sitting at the edge of my bed. Each time our eyes met, I just became more curious. For some reason, I yearned to see him without his mask. What face could match those dark amber eyes?
So I figured: if I took my mask off, he would too. I straightened against the back of the bed frame, Swiss glancing towards me curiously. I reached up towards my mask, maneuvering it away from my head. I leaned over carefully, setting the helmet onto the nightstand. Swiss was watching me carefully, following each of my movements. I moved my hair, which was now a bit messy from the mask, behind me.
I quit my moving, now leaning against the bed frame once again. I fixed my eyes onto Swiss, trying to scan him for a reaction. His gaze seemed to be gliding over my face, and it looked like his eyes had widened just slightly. Soon, he cleared his throat, looking down to the plate on the bed. "Done?" He asked. I nodded, for I had eaten my share. I hadn't wanted to leave him empty handed.
He took the plate aside, setting it on the emptier bedside table. "You gotta get some furniture in here." He announced suddenly, looking out towards the room. He placed his hands on his hips, his narrowed eyes traveling across empty spaces in the room. "I mean, this has to be the biggest bedroom in the monastery, save for Copia."
I furrowed my brow, looking towards him. I didn't think the room was too bad. It had enough: my bed, wardrobe, the fireplace. Well, he was right about this being a very large room. Secondo used to be in here. I could remember how untidy it was and how his nightstand was littered with clutter. Luckily, we got that problem fixed. When he was fired as Papa, he just randomly walked up to me and said, "We're trading rooms, move in by midnight." That, I never could understand why he did it. He gave up this large bedroom for one that a ghoul would use? It was strange.
