The opening scene takes place in the middle of the night, on wooden boats floating on water and surrounded by a thick mist. Up ahead, a guard is patrolling the area, when he hears movement. The guard questions who's there, and in response, a flame is set off and two silhouettes, appearing to be in the shape of humans, or so it appeared, for one seemed to have the head of a dragon. The guard stood, readying himself for a fight, but what he didn't know was that something was behind him, stalking him. The guard noticed a bright blue light out of the corner of his eye, and quickly turned around. What he saw was a beast with a spine of the same colour, getting ready to attack.

The guard quickly backed away and was then faced with the two beings. Out of fear, the guard dropped his lanturn, causing the encased sparks to spread across the deck, catching alight everything it touched. The two beings walked through the fire with ease, flames licking up their fire-proof armour, made from the shredded scales of dragons. The taller being of the two took off the face-covering helmet, and it was revealed to be Valka.

Toothless knocked the guard over with his tail knocking him out as Hiccup praised Toothless. Valka and the others went to work, freeing the trapped dragons, and taking off their muzzles. So far so good. This was a stealth mission, and the 3rd boat they had raided.

"Alright bud looks like that's it. Let's get out of here!" Hiccup says, getting on top of Toothless and flying off with the gang behind them, with most of the dragons they had saved either following them or flying back into the wild.

Little did they know their world was about to fall apart.

The rest of the hunters had gathered to discuss the raiders from last night. The guard began to explain the blue-spined creature he had encountered, and the rest of them all looked at him as if he was insane.

For all but one.

This hunter had Death Gripper dragons trailing behind. He wore a black mask and was rather thin for a hunter. They all mocked him, seeing him as weaker than the rest. Until one of the caged dragons had gotten out and charged right at this odd hunter. He pulled his mask down and took out his crossbow, shooting at the Rumblehorn with a dart he had made from the venom of his dragons, right in the middle of the forehead. It dropped to the floor, unconscious.

"Who are ya?" One of the hunters asked. Now they were curious.

"You may call me Grimmel, now tell me more about the blue spined beast." He spoke in a calm manner that sent shivers down everyone's backs.

"The beast it, uh, was fully black, with its spine brightly glowing blue and moved slowly in the shadows and uh.. when I looked back, it had eyes like snakes then it whacked me with its tail. All I saw was red and black!" The guard told Grimmel, panicked.

Grimmel thought for a second.

"How long have these raids been going on?" He asked the others coldly.

"Two months, they don't take our supplies, only the dragons. They all come at night wearing some sort of dragon armour that hides their faces. We don't know which tribe they are." A lady hunter told the thin man.

"Sounds like a challenge then, hm?" He said, very cockily. "The dragon you described sounded like a male Nightfury, females don't usually glow that bright, as it's only used for either a mating or threatening display." Grimmel told them.

Nobody in the group had even seen a Nightfury, sure there was the rare sighting but someone domesticating such a beast? Impossible. They all thought Grimmel had tracked down the only tribe to have tamed a beast- the Berkians.
