"Okay, Alastair, explain this one more time to me please. Just explain. I want to know what I'm doing."
"You're borrowing the body, just for a while. We couldn't create a whole new person, that's impossible, so afterwards we will decide whether or not to erase what you did. Maybe erase a few memories, if anything happens. Hopefully we won't need to, that's a bit of paperwork..."
"So you can just undo something if I do something wrong."
"Most of the time."
"What do you mean, most of the time? Alastair, isn't there something magical you can do and Poof! Everything's better?"
"You of all people should know things don't work like that. I'm not a wizard." He's getting annoyed.
"Well, I think that anything's possible. This is the afterlife, essentially. We should be able to control the world."
"I think you're insane. And you should tell that to management, that would definitely make things easier. What was I saying again?"
"Erasing all my hard work, I think."
"That's right, yes, we can't erase everything 100% of the time because some things stick in the memory. And it's against the rules to tamper with the memories any further than that, which is a real headache. But to be honest, we're kind of winging this one, we've only ever had to do this procedure three times. This being the third time."
"In all of history?"
"Well this division has only existed since 112 A.D. because it was managed by the divines before that, but you're not really supposed to understand that. Even I don't, really."
"What you're basically telling me is that I have to wing this."
"Essentially, yes, I suppose you could say that."
