Been a while, but a new chapter has arrived
Hope you like it!
Thank you so much for sticking with me!Kevin's P.O.V.
When I left the room, I had to take a second for myself. I understand why they said what they said. Doesn't mean it doesn't hurt to hear them say it to me.When I've taken my moment, I wipe the remaining tears of my face and make my way down the stairs.
The other two are angrily staring at the table. The room is dead silent. They look up when they hear me approach the table. I sit back down and they look at me expectantly.
"What did they say?" Joe asks. "Did you talk it out?" Nick says.
I look at them both before answering. "I don't think we'll ever really talk it out with them." I answer.
"Why won't they listen to us? We've already apologized so many times. How much more time do we need to before they forgive us?" Nick blurts.
"It's not in the apology anymore, Nick. It's in the way they need their time to move on and up to us to earn back the trust we lost. We haven't exactly been there for them you know." I explain.
"Still doesn't make it better." He sulks.
"Doesn't matter. There's nothing we can do really. We have to wait it out. Go on and not keep dwelling on the past or pushing them to forgive us or forget it ever happened. We can't ask that from them." Joe spits. Sounds like he is done with the whole ordeal.
"I know Joe. It's okay. We just have to stick together. As long as we're family and make sure they are okay and happy, that's all that matters now. It's all I want for them. And for them to have each other if they don't trust us to be that person for them." I tell them. They silently show their agreement.
"Why are we so mean? Have we always been like that? Or just to them?" Nick says defeatedly. He reaches forward to the bottle of gin and fills up his cup with shaky hands. He screws the bottle back up, but before he moves over to take a drink, I realize what he poured and shot up to put my hand over his drink.
"Nuh uh.. You've had enough for tonight." He holds onto the cup, hoping I'd let up. I wait for him to give up and with a sigh he does and sits back in his chair.
"We're not mean. You're not mean. We made mistakes. We're human. We were all in pain and letting it out on the rest of the family." Well, as far as we saw them anyways. Not Frankie or Pippa, that's for sure.
"Will we ever be loved by them again?" Joe asks me sadly. I don't know how to answer that.
"We do love you." We hear from the other side of the room.
I look over there to see Pippa in the doorway. She walks over and sits back down at table as well.
"We never stopped loving you. That's why it hurt so much when you abandoned us and why we're having trouble moving on. Frankie and I had to do it with each other. Not you." She starts.
"We tried reaching out to you, we tried through mom and dad. We showed up at your places every once in a while, but it was like you were never there. It felt like you were avoiding us. The few times I had contact with Nick, he felt like a complete stranger to me. Not the brother I used to know. I got angry. So angry with you and I swore to myself I'd never forgive you for leaving us all those years." We can hear the anger lacing her voice.
"We're sorry." Is all Joe responds with.
"I can do absolutely nothing now with your sorry. Maybe someday in the future, but not now. Not yet." Pippa says and moves away from the table. Most likely to get away from us again.
The sound of the back door opening enters my ears. Oh no. Mom and dad are back.
"How was your day?" I ask mom when she walks in the room. "It was fine, dear. How was yours?" I nod with a fake smile. "It was fine too."
I can see the latest alcohol hitting Nick right in the face and I decide to get him upstairs to test, rest and hopefully recover a bit before dinner.
I get up and grab Nick by the arm. He's ready to protest, but I'm not letting him. He obediently lets me help stir him up the stairs and into his room. On the way we pass Pippa's room. I can see Pippa give us a sad look as we pass the room slowly.
I drop Nick on his bed, and he immediately hides his face in his pillow with a groan.
He didn't seem so far away back when we were downstairs. Maybe his levels are acting up or he's overreacting. He does that sometimes.
I take his phone from his pocket and scan the back of his arm where the monitor is. He turns out to be a bit on the lower side. No worrisome outcome though. At least for now.
Nick rolls from his stomach onto his side and I grab a juice from his emergency cooler and put the straw to his lips. I wait for him to finish the drink.
"Is he alright?" I turn to see Pippa in the doorway with her arms folded in front of her. "Yeah, he's perfectly fine. Just a bit tipsy." I tell her. "You don't have to downplay it for me. I know how bad he can be. Tell me the truth. Now."
"Alright. He's drunk. But he's fine. I promise. His levels were a bit low, that's why he drank the juice. He should sober up soon." She nods and thanks me for looking after him before quickly walking back to her own room.
I walk to her room to find Frankie and her on her bed.
"We love the two of you. You know that right?" I ask them. They look at me, share a glance to one another before turning back to me and both nod. "We know." Frankie says.
Frankie gets up and wraps his arms around my waist. I freeze up, but soon my arms are wrapped around him as well.
