I woke up to see Fitz gone and I was by myself in the bed. I rubbed my eyes and got out of bed not seeing the girls. So instead I just went to the bathroom and took a warm shower. I wore one of the outfits that I had brought from home and brushed the tangles out of my hair. I hair dried my hair before putting it in a ponytail. I left my bedroom and saw Linh just down the hall.
"Hey Linh!" she looked over her shoulder and smiled at me.
"Good morning Sophie," she said. I said the same thing back and we continued walking down the hall. But then I saw a guard. A familiar one. One with strawberry blonde hair and perwinkle eyes. Dex. I ran and hugged him, wrapping my arms around his neck and since he was taller than me he lifted me off the ground and then set me down again.
"You didn't tell me you were coming here today," I said, putting my hands in my pocket.
"I wanted to surprise you. And I need you to catch me up." Linh walked up to us and gave him a small shy wave and smile. Dex smiled big and waved back.
"Linh this is my cousin Dex, and Dex this is Linh a selected," I introduced.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Linh," Dex said.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too," she said a bigger smile on her face. Dex looked at his watch and his eyes widened.
"I have to go train, but Sophie meet me after breakfast in the gardens," Dex said. He gave one last wave to Linh and left.
"So did Dex also grow up here in the castle?" Linh asked.
"Yeah. Growing up it's always been the five of us. Me, Fitz, Biana, Dex, and Keefe." she sighed.
"I wonder how awesome it was like growing up in a palace. It's always been me and my twin brother," she looked sad.
"What happened to your parents?" Then I realized I shouldn't have asked "You don't have to answer that, I wasn't thinking."
She shook her head. "It's fine. Me and my brother ran away from the house when we were 12. Our parents weren't exactly the best, so we ran away. Ever since then it's always been the two of us. We did whatever we could to make money and try to live off whatever had and earned." I put a hand on her shoulder and felt really bad for her.
"I'm so sorry Linh."
"It's fine. But you're so privileged to grow up here," I nodded.
"Yeah, life in the palace is really nice but I haven't exactly had an easy life as well. My real parents left me in an alley when I was seven and then I got adopted by Edaline and Grady," I explained.
"That's terrible," I shrug
"It's fine. I'm just lucky to have found parents who loved me the same way I love them," and after that we went to breakfast in silence.
(Mini Time Skip)
Once breakfast was over I was the first one to leave the dining hall. I rushed to the gardens and found Dex waiting for me.
"Hey Dex," he smiled big as he looks at me.
"Hey Soph," we both walk over to a bench and sat on it.
"So how's everything at home?" I ask him.
"Good. Grady and Edaline miss you a bunch. But it's so empty without you around. I'm usually in the yard training and stuff but it's not the same without you around. And we've been watching The Report. Yesterday's really shocked us." my face turns red and I look at the ground. "Now as Edaline says 'Give me the deets.'" we both laugh at his impression of Edaline and soon the laughter dies down.
