I was once again awoke with a surging pain. I clutched my stomach and rested my head against the wall. Fitz stirred in his sleep and opened his eyes.
"Are you all right?" I shook my head.
"We need to escape as soon as possible. You can't stay like this. Your stab wound needs to be treated," he said.
"I know-"
"Breakfast," the same gruff voice spoke as he set down a tray and glass of water. The tray had a plate where a scone sat on, which was most likely as stale as the bread from yesterday.
We left the plate there huddled in the back of the cell in silence. Who knows how long we've been there because a man opened the cell and once again grabbed us by the shoulder and guided us to the same room as yesterday.
There we saw Gisella in her chair and she smiled at us.
"Sleep well?" We didn't respond and plopped in the two chair by her desk.
"So have you changed your mind? Are you willing to hand over the kingdom to me?" She asked.
"Same answer as last time Gisella, no," Fitz answered.
"That's a shame, you could be saving yourself the trouble. Remember you have 2 days to finalize your answer. Take them," the man once again grabbed us by the shoulder but instead of taking us back to our cell, he took us to an empty room.
"You are both to do 50 push ups. For every push up you don't do, you get punished," the man explained, holding up a dagger.
"Are you mad?! We're both very weak and tired. And Sophie's hurt and in pain!"
"Did I ask for your opinion?" Fitz stayed quiet, still keeping his deadly glare. "Exactly. So do as your told." This was going to be a big challenge. I was feeling incredibly week and I know that the most I could do was at least 10. And the dress wasn't going to make it any easier.
"1...2....3....4..." he counted as we did the push ups.
"10...11...12..." he continued. My arms were aching so very much and I could barely bring myself up.
"14...15.." and that's when I couldn't anymore. I collapsed. Fitz looked at me, worry filled in his eyes.
"Do you give up?" He grabbed my arm and pulled me up, using his dagger and slitting my wrist, causing it to bleed.
"Do the push ups," I get into push up position.
"15...16...17...18...19...20.." Once we finally reached 50, I already received 3 new scratches on my arm and wrists. The man threw us back in the cell and locked it.
"Sophie, oh my god..." He looked at my wrists and my arms, which made it even more painful even though, he was very delicate. I took my arm back.
"Did I hurt you?"
"Kind of? It hurts a lot."
"How can I help?" I shrug.
"I don't know, just wrap it with cloth so that it can stop bleeding," Fitz nodded. I tried to cut the fabric but it was painful. Fitz did it instead. He wrapped the cloth around my scratches making it stop bleeding.
"How are your arms?" Fitz shrugged.
"Fine, they just ache really bad. We can't continue doing this. You're in a lot of pain, so we're going to need escape as soon as possible. We still have no idea where the entrance is and we have to escape today. So we're going to be a bit lost on the way," Fitz said.
We talked even more ways of escaping and soon a man put a late of bread and rusty water. We left it once again.
"I wanna go home," I whispered, he embraced me in a hug and kissed the top of my head.
"Me too sweetheart, me too. And I promise you we will." I rested my head on his shoulder.
"Why don't you sleep for a few hours and I'll wake you up so we can try to get out of this horrid place," I nodded in agreement and soon fell asleep.
(A few hours later)
"Soph, wake up," Fitz whispered gently in my ear. I woke up and rubbed my eyes.
"How long have I been asleep?"
"About 4 hours or so," Fitz answered.
"Fitz, that's such a long time! Why didn't you wake me earlier?" I whisper hissed.
"You were really tired and besides you looked so peaceful. But I have no idea what time it is but I'm sure it's at least 1 or 2 am." We both walked to the cell door and I pulled out a pin, trying to unlock the door. I heard a click and opened the door as quietly as I could. Me and Fitz made our way out of the cell and grabbed the cloaks that were hung up.
We put them on and walked down the hall not knowing where we were going. We walked down the hall way, took a right and then a left. And I saw a light. We ran down the hall making our ways out of the, what seemed like it, cave. It was sunrise and we walked down the hill.
"We did it! We made it out of there alive!" I hugged him and lifted me up and twirled me around.
"Just like I told you," he set me down and bent down and kissed me. I smiled against his lips and we soon broke apart.
"All right, we're still not home free. We still have to make our way to Everglen," I say. We continued making our way down the hill. We continued walking until our feet ached. We soon made our way to a village. Everglen's village. We were almost there.
"Do you think we could stay in the village and take a rest?" Fitz nodded and we soon made our way to a bench.
"We're almost home," Fitz said. We stayed there for at least 20 minutes before we once again made our way to the palace. Once went up the small hill we could see people attacking the palace. We snuck in the palace trying to avoid bullets and arrows. Key word, trying.
Fitz got shot in the leg.
"Fitz!" He started limping and grabbed a hold to the wall.
"Don't worry, I'm fine," was he serious right now?
"Fitz, you're obviously hurt. I'm going to get a guard and you're immediately going to the infirmary," out of the corner of my eye I saw a guards head shift towards us and he run towards us.
"Get Fitz to the infirmary," the guard nodded and threw Fitz's arm around his shoulder.
"What about you? It's not safe," he said.
"I'll be fine, I promise. Now go take him."
"Yes ma'am," the guard helped Fitz to the infirmary and I made my way to the safe room.
