chapter fifteen ~ crossroad blues

the road

The sound of plates hitting one another, the grill frying, and people chatting filled the small diner the hunters found themselves in. Sam had his computer out looking up their status in the police database, Dean and Haven sitting across from him as they ate their plate of fries with Dean's arm around the seat behind the brunette.

"Well, so much for a low profile," Sam had Dean's arrest picture pulled up along with his charges and warrant. "You got a warrant in St. Louis and now you're officially in the FED's database."

Dean smiled and took a sip of his drink, "Dude, I'm like Dillinger or something."

"Dude, it's not funny. It makes the job harder, we gotta be more careful now," Sam pointed out.

"Well, what do they got on me and you?" Haven asked the taller brother.

Sam clicked at the computer, "You're labeled as a missing persons, they think Dean kidnapped you and is holding you hostage somewhere."

Haven laughed to herself at that. Dean looked at her, "Why is that funny?"

"Dean, come on. You kidnapping me? You'd be on the floor before you even touched me," Haven playfully smiled at the boy.

The Winchester started mumbling under his breath in protest before clearing his throat. Haven kissed his cheek as he looked to his brother, "Uh, what do they have you down for?"

"I'm sure they just, forgot to post it," Sam told the couple before going back to typing away.

Dean raised a brow, "Wait, no accessory? Nothing?"

"Shut up," Sam snapped before Dean started laughing again.

"You're jealous," Dean pointed out.

Sam looked taken aback, "No, I'm not!"

Dean took a bite of his bacon, "Uh huh." When Sam didn't answer, Dean continued. "Alright, what do you got on the case there you innocent, harmless, young man, you."

Haven rolled her eyes at Dean's joke attempt while Sam roughly shut his computer and pulled out some papers. "Architect, Sean Bloyd plummeted to his death from the roof of his home, a condominium he designed."

"Build a high rise and jump off the top it. That's classy," Dean remarked.

"When did he call animal control?" Haven asked, referencing the black dogs he had reported.
