Lurking In The Shadows

Chapter 12

That was a lot to take in. They lost their lives for a selfish and vindictive man. He took their lives because he couldn't get his own way. I guess that why he's so controlling. I can't believe that my mother married a guy like that. And the worst part is she wouldn't even believe me.

Suddenly I heard a knock on the door. Oh crap, I totally forgot that I'm in the school's bathroom. It looks like the others just realize the situation as well. " I'll talk to you later". Scarlet spoke up. Just then they disappear together.

I heard the knocking again and this time I heard Jake's voice behind the door. " Becca are you okay?" Is he worried about me. Well, that's a surprise. He hasn't been speaking to me much over the past few weeks after the incident in the cafeteria.

"Yeah, I'm good. I'll be out in a minute". I told him. I washed my face to get rid of the evidence of me crying but my eyes didn't do any justice. I opened the door and see the worried faces of Jake, Jackie, Connor and Connie.

"We came to get you at calculus class but they told us you went to the bathroom and didn't return. And that was an hour and a half ago. So, what were you doing in there?" An hour and a half ago. I was so caught up in the tales of my murderer of a stepfather I lost track of time.

"Were you crying?" Conner asked. "No, I wasn't. I'm just not feeling well." They didn't look convinced, but they dropped it anyway. "Well let's get you home then," said Conner. They all took me to the office  for them to call my mom so she could pick me up. They have been by my side the whole time until my mom finally arrived.

"What happened?" she asked. "Becca is just not feeling well Mrs. Walker ". How did they even know my mom's name. I don't even remember telling them. Well it doesnt matter right now. I got too much on my mind. Will mom ever belive me when I tell her what I found out?

The drive home was very silent. My mom didn't try to speak to me which I was very grateful for. After what I heard today and don't think things are going to be the same around here. When we arrived home I headed straight up to my room. I went into the bathroom and took a cold shower.

I can't believe everything. First my mom cheating on my dad. Then she marrying the person she cheated on him with. Now I found out that he murdered Over 50 women. And they are all buried in a cemetery in the woods.

I turned off the shower and got dressed. I was drying my hair when I heard a knock on the door. "May I come in?" Oh no. He was the last person I want to see right now. But before I could say anything the door was pushed open.

"You're mom told me you weren't feeling well". I was so alert that I didn't realize I stood up from the bed. "Wow! Easy there, you're looking at me like you've seen a ghost". He was laughing. If I did not know what I do now I probably would have laughed with him.

" I'm fine I was just about to go to sleep. You can see yourself out". Just then when I turned my back I felt something grab unto my shoulder. I turned around to see Scarlet. The weird thing is Jordan is still in the room and he's looking around like he's looking for something.

"Never turn your back on him". She said before she disappeared. I kept my focus on Jordan. When he finished looking around he left my room. Just then a note appeared on my bed. "Meet me at the same spot where we first met at 12. ~S". Just looking at the note I know it was from Scarlet.

The time was now 11:55 p.m and I was getting ready to head to the woods. I took my time sneaking downstairs. My mom and Jordan went to sleep over an hour ago, so this gives me the perfect opportunity to head out.

The steps were tiled so they don't make any noise. Thank goodness for that. I walked through the back door and headed straight to the woods. Almost half way I felt as if someone was watching me.

I tried to shake it off but I still felt like there was eyes from every angle looking at me. I was almost there when I heard a twig snap. I started running and I could swear I heard foot steps coming after me.

I finally made it to the spot. I checked my phone and it was 12. Just then I felt a pair of hand grab me and I was standing in a graveyard. How the hell did I get here? Just when I turned around I saw Louise.

"Sorry to scare you. But Scarlet sent me for you. Come on we don't have much time. We need to get you back before 2" she said. "What happens at 2?" I asked. She stopped and turned to look at me. "That's the time he comes to bury his next victim".
