Ever since I found out about Jordan, I have been doing some investigating. Every night I meet up with Scarlet and she would transport me to the graveyard. Every night I interview a different woman to hear their stories. So far all I hear is they were murdered for some selfish reason or that they were butchered to death.
It's now spring break and I started working in that little diner in town for about two days now. I also used this time to do some investigations and asking questions without seeming too suspicious. I might be called the new Nancy Drew.
It was around 5:30 p.m. and I get off at 6. I was cleaning the tables when I see Jake and the crew walk in. They were all laughing but what surprised me the most is Abbigayle was with them. She was arm in arm with Jake. I have to admit I am jealous maybe a little bit because I have developed a liking for Jake. But hey, I'm happy once he is happy.
When they saw me to say they were shocked was an understatement. Connie, Jackie and Conner looked at me with sympathy; Jake looked at me with guilt and Abbigayle and Layla were smirking at me. I was the least bit affected by this. They all sat by one of the tables that I was serving, and I went over to take their orders.
"Hello, welcome to Shelby's Diner may I take your orders". I smile politely at them even though I was burning in jealousy. "We will all have cheeseburgers and chocolate milkshakes". Abbigayle replies. I looked at everyone to verify and they just nodded.
I wrote down the orders and gave them to the chef. I waited for their orders, and when they were ready, I took it to their table. I was about to walk away when I felt someone grab unto my hand. "Can I talk to You for a minute?" It was Jake. I sighed and turned around. "I'm busy but enjoy your food". with that I yanked my hand from his and walked of.
I have more important things to do than caring about them. Its hurts, but my life is more important than some silly crush. I realized that its almost 6 so I started preparing myself to leave. I took off the uniform that they give us to wear in the diner and change into a pair of denim jeans and a white oversized t-shirt.
I waited until the crew was finished eating before I gave them their checks and headed out. Jake tried to tip me, but Abbigayle made a big fuss about it. But he still ended up giving me by sliding it into the checkbook. I smiled at that tiny detail. I called my mom and let her know that I'm ready. Withing 20 minutes she arrived.
The drive home was silent and I'm very grateful for it. "Mom, can I ask you a hypothetical question?" I looked over at her. "Sure, honey go ahead". I took a deep breath it's now or never. I rather ask her it as a hypothetical question and get her reaction so I know what to expect.
"So say that you hypothetically found out something that can change your whole life. And this hypothetical thing is that you're married to a crazed, cold blooded killer. What would you do?"
I was nervously waiting for her answer. After a few moments of silence she finally spoke up. "To be honest I don't know. Of course I would want to leave but isn't it going to be hard to escape with him being a serial killer and all?". That was not the response I was looking for at all. But it's better than I expected.
We got home and I headed straight to my room. I have a little diary that I was jotting my little information that I've been gathering. I noticed that every night at exactly 2 a.m he brings a woman's body to bury. And each plot has the lady's name on a cross over it.
I also noticed he always comes to the diner for lunch to keep an eye on me. If I didn't know any better I would think that I was his next victim. But he wouldn't kill me; right? I was so lost in thought that I didn't see the room door open.
"Hey sweetie it's dinner time". I heard my mom say. "Okay mom I'll be down in a sec". My mom just left the room and I hid the book where no one can find it. I feel this weird feeling as if I'm being watched. I haven't felt this way since the first day we moved here.
Just then I looked out of the window and I could have been certain that I see something move in the woods. I blinked it away. I'm overthinking this situation a little bit too much. I headed downstairs to see both my mom and Jordan sitting at the table.
We had small talk, but that's about it. After I finished eating I went back upstairs and closed my room door. I have a long night tonight. I check the time on my phone and it was just 8:30. Might as well get some sleep before meeting Scarlet and the others tonight.
