Does He Know?

Chapter 5

I dipped my toes into the sand. Gavi's arms around my shoulders. -I should have brought another jacket.- I said. He turned to me and smiled.

-I dare you to go into the water.- he said.
-Are you crazy? And I didn't bring a bathing suit.-
-we can go in our underwear, it's practically the same thing.- he stood up and unbuttoned his pants pulling them down. -Pablo what are you doing?-

-Let's go.- he extended his hand out towards me. We had been sitting at the beach waiting for our friends for a bonfire. It was a colder Barcelona afternoon and I had been freezing. This wasn't something I would normally do but there was something about being with Gavi that made me feel free. I stood up and pulled my pants down exposing my underwear. I threw my shirt over my head and threw it on the sand next to us. He grabbed my hand and we ran towards the water. Gavi didn't give me any time to think about how cold the water felt against my body. No chance to rethink my decision. Once we got to the water my body submerged. Our hands still holding onto each other. I came up from the water and felt Gavi's arms around my waist as he pulled me in. He left a small kiss in my lips.

-You're crazy, you know that?- I said as he laughed. -For you.- butterflies began to form in my stomach as the words left his mouth. We turned over to where we were sitting before and saw Val and some others walking up. We walked out of the water and approached our friends.

-Sara!- yelled Val. I stood there in front of my friend in my wet underwear as I trembled from the cold. Gavi went over to say hi to some of his friends and that's when I saw him.

Pedri was walking behind with Ferran with his hoodie over his head and his hands in his pockets trembling from the cold. He looked over at me and his eyes inspected me from head to toe. I felt insecure and put my arms across my chest. I quickly gathered my clothes from the sand and excused myself to go get changed.

Gavi waited outside of the changing room for me. I came out and he took me in for a hug. -We should have brought a change of clothes.- I said and he laughed.

We walked back to our friends. Marco had successfully started the bonfire and they were all sitting around it.

-Now we can properly hug.- said Val as she stood up and took me in for a hug. Next to her was Pedri who also stood up and placed a kiss on my cheek. -Hola Sara.- I smiled and walked over to the seat next to him where Gavi was already sitting. I sat on his lap as we all began to talk. I felt as Gavi placed a small kiss on my back, I turned around to smile at him and he mouthed "te quiero."

We were startled by Ferran who began to make fun of Gavi. -You were the last one I thought we would see in a relationship.- he said. Gavi gave his friends a nervous smile. I looked over at Pedri who was also smiling but his eyes were fixated on Gavi's hands which were placed around my waist. Our eyes met and he threw me a shy smile before we both turned our attention to Val who had started making s'mores.

We spent the rest of the afternoon laughing and talking. It felt nice to be out of the house and hanging with friends. Gavi and I had only been dating for two weeks but I felt as if he was taking me out of my shell.

-I don't know if I said this but I really love Gavi with you.- said Val as we both took a walk along the shore. -I should have tried to set you up with him instead of Pedri.-
-He's amazing, Val. He's good for me.
-And Pedri?- she asked. I raised my shoulders and looked over to our group of friends. Gavi and Pedri were now playing with a soccer ball passing it to each other. I saw as Gavi fumbled the ball and lost control. Pedri began to laugh and Gavi smacked him on the head.

-Pedri's just Pedri.- I responded to Val.
-I saw the way he looked at you Sara. He's not over you.- I grabbed Val's arm and we began to walk over to our friends quietly. The truth was I didn't know what to say to Val's comment.
