Almost There

I head into the office, the boy's words chilling me to the bone. How can you promise something like that? How can you give yourself determination to try to defeat something that is almost impossible to defeat in the first place? I'm so deeply concentrated on my thoughts that I run into a blonde boy. "I-I am so s-sorry to bump y-you!" He said in a high pitched voice. "No, it's alright." Knowing what these kids must have witnessed, how can it not be alright? I continue meandering through the crowd of people till I get to the office. Thank goodness my brothers are there still crouched together in their spot. There apparently was a person who knew how to drive a boat. I walk up to the front of the office by the window, trying to see if he had any family. I come across a small, worn, picture taped to the window. I look closer and see him, and I guess his son. His son is stunningly attractive. He has freckles splattered across his face, a button nose, a tall and muscular build and a white smile. He also had dark hair, with light brown eyes. I take the picture off the window. As I do so, I catch a glimpse of nice handwriting.

Dear Dad,
I hope that you come back soon! I think it's really cool that you're a captain of a boat! It doesn't matter what all the other people say, they're just jealous! What is it like in Wall Maria? Is it nice? Or is it the same as here? Have you seen the Military Police? I want to be one when I grow up. When you grew up did you want to be a boat captain? You're lucky you get to travel! One day I'll travel the world! And I'll take you with me! I love you Dad! And I miss you!
Love, Marco

Marco... That's his name. I'm going to find him. But what will I tell him? Hey! I know we've never met, and this may seem weird, but I knew your father for a few hours, he saved my life, but he's dead, so yeah, sorry, here's a picture. You can't just do that! I fold the picture up and put it in my front pocket. I walk over to my brothers and sit down. "Are you exhotted Plum?" Jacob asks. I laughed. "You mean, exhausted? And yes I am exhausted. It's been a long day." They stay silent for a few minutes. "Plum? What's going to happen? To us, and to Nicolas? What's going to happen to humanity?" Ravens questions. I thought about it, "As long as there's still breath in me, I will fight to keep you safe. As for Nicolas, I don't know. I haven't heard from him. And as for humanity, we'll just have to see. I'm sorry you both had to see this terror." I reply. Within a few minutes of my reply, both the boys are asleep and I can see Trosts' gates getting closer. "We're almost there everyone! Just one more mile till we reach our safe haven!" The boat's captain announces over the intercoms. We're finally be safe, away from our past and closer to our future.... But Marco's future will never be the same.
