You, by the light is the greatest find
In a world full wrong, you're the thing that's right
Finally made it through the lonely, to the other side

There will be a student assembly today. This means that all students will gather to the hall to welcome the year ahead. This means the principal, the student council and the department heads should give speeches. Some will even have a dance number and performance to perform, I'm very excited!

"Being a student body president kind of means that you should be a role model—you know? People look up to you," his voice echoed in my head since yesterday when he said it to me.

Who does he think he is? To just say it straight to my face like that? But he wasn't wrong at all. In fact, he made sense. Oh shit—I will see him today, right? That means I'll be reminded of what he said most of the time.

"Good morning students, please proceed to the school hall for the assembly," the guidance counselor spoke through the school speakers.

I got my speech paper ready and proceeded to the school hall because for sure the principal was waiting for me since I was the first who would give an opening speech.

"You ready, Danvers?" the principal asked.

"Much more ready than you, Principal Bailey!" he just smirked.

"Well then—let's just wait for the rest of the school to come," he said as the students started getting on their seats and the hall was already half full.

I reviewed my speech and as I looked down at the audience, there I saw him. He was wearing a yellow shirt that suited him well and his complexion was very light so you can recognize him anywhere with that messy hair. I actually like his style. But I was brought back to earth when Principal Bailey snapped his fingers in front of my face.

"You finally like someone from the crowd?" he said.

"No, sir. I was just... looking at how many students you have here in St. Patrick," I excused myself.

"Getting quite a bit overwhelmed? Crowd shock? Stage freight?" he asked.

"Absolutely—not anymore," I chuckled.

"Okay, I think that's all good, we can start now," he said so I started my speech.

"

Hello and good morning. My name is obviously Leila Raven. I'd like to begin by thanking the faculty, staff, administration, board of trustees, returning alumni, current St. Patrick students, friends, family, my Batch of 2020 peers, and most importantly, the junior ushers in the back. Thank you for your assistance.

I am extremely honored to speak on behalf of the students in front of me. To say I am honored to walk across the stage with you all for another year is an understatement. So, when the important people told me I was going to give a welcome speech, I had no idea what that meant, and it's definitely showing, so just hang in there and laugh when you're supposed to but don't want to or give me a little "awwwwww" when I say something cute like, "Class of 2020, I cannot imagine myself without you all." I truly mean it when I say I adore you.

I paused for a moment as the crowd went "aaaaawww" and they even clapped while I got my eyes on the boy who was smiling and clapping for me. My heartbeat was racing but I still carried on.

Thank you, guys; that just made things a little easier. Seniors, please take a moment to reflect on the last few years with me.
