Trigger Warning: Biphobia.
A/N: Also Santana is nice towards Rachel in this and it takes place in S2 between episodes, Blame it On the Alcohol, Sex Education and the episode after Santana fought Lauren Zizes because Lauren is with Puck... this is purely based off a headcanon I have when it comes to Rachel, and I wanted to put it in Story form and this is something I believe happened with Santana, Brittany and Rachel off screen in Glee S2.
Rachel sat in the Lima Bean with Mercedes and she was hearing Kurt and Blaine talk about Blaine questioning himself and him possibly liking girls and then she heard it.
Kurt's biphobia towards Blaine. It upset her a lot. Kurt was supposed to be her best friend and he was biphobic. Rachel now knew that she could never come out to Kurt as she now knew how Kurt felt about bisexuality.
Mercedes looked at Rachel once she saw her uncertainty and said
"Are you okay Diva?" Rachel was brought back to reality and said
"Yeah I'm okay. I just realised that someone I thought was my best friend, was actually really awful." Mercedes was confused at what she said until she saw Kurt talking Blaine and knew what she now meant.
"oh Kurt and what he said? Well he isn't wrong." Rachel was shocked she couldn't believe it. She stood up and said
"I gotta gay." Rachel went wide eyed and said
"I meant go. so bi. i mean bye." Rachel then left the lima bean leaving Mercedes really confused.
Rachel rushed back to school and went into the choir room. Where she was meant with Santana. Rachel was nervous as Santana saw her and said
"What's wrong Hobbit?" Rachel didn't say anything. But Santana knew something was wrong. and Rachel said
"Nothing except the two people I thought were my friends aren't actually nice people and now I'm talking to you." Santana narrowed her eyes at Rachel as Rachel sat down in her usual seat in the choir room and said
"Wheazy and Lady Hummel? What did they do this time? Give you more alcohol or something?" Rachel shook her head no and said
"It's not that. It's something personal. And even though I haven't told them I know how they feel about it already." Santana was more confused than anything, but she saw how Rachel was. She knew instantly what was wrong and what Rachel was battling, as Santana herself was dealing with it herself. Santana sat down next to her and softly spoke
"I know how you feel Berry. It's a big struggle and something you can't deal with on your own. Luckily for me I have Puckerman keeping my secret. It's why I fought Barbie, Wheazy and Zizes when they were with them, I was worried he would have told them especially Wheazy who along with Lady Hummel made Barbie's pregnancy be gossip." Rachel was shocked at Santana's revelation and said
"But why didn't you fight me when I was dating Noah?" Santana looked at Rachel and said
"Because out of all of them I happen to actually like you with Puckerman, and you never make anything a gossip like they do especially Wheazy and Barbie, if Puckerman told you about me I wouldn't care because you would keep it to yourself and not tell anyone. You respect him just as much as I do and as much as Britt does. So you want to tell me what's going on or not?" Just as Rachel was about to speak the other glee kids walked in, which meant Santana stood up to sit back where she was but signaled to Rachel they will talk later, and Mercedes sat next to her with Sam on the other side.
Rachel was unsure on whether or not to tell Santana. It's not like she and her are friends, but Santana said that she liked her which is rare for Santana to say.
After glee Rachel walked to the Gymnasium to watch the cheerio practice so she could talk with Santana as Rachel knew the gymnasium was a private place.
Santana was in practice when Quinn walked over and said
"Man hands is watching. Probably hoping for a spot on the team or hoping I could get injured so she can have Finn." Santana looked over Quinn's shoulder and saw Rachel sitting there alone. Santana was concerned for Rachel. She knew that Rachel needed to talk to her. Santana looked back at Quinn and said
"Just shut up for once. not everything is about you and finny like you believe Fabray and not everything the hobbit does is about you and him either or about anything. She's probably just here to get away from the cafeteria and the footballers and hockey players did you think of Barbie or not." Quinn went quiet and then walked away after Sue announced that practice was over.
Santana with Brittany, walked over to Rachel and sat with her.
Santana sat down in front of her with Brittany next to Rachel and said
"What's going on Rachel, you can tell Britt and I?" Rachel was nervous and said
"Not yet. There's still people here. I don't want anyone else to know. especially her." Santana and Brittany looked forward and saw Quinn standing there and Santana then looked back at Rachel and said
"Come over tonight and we can talk then, my parents will be out so you'll have the privacy."
Rachel gave a small smile and said
"Thank you."
Later that night Rachel snuck out of home, and went over to Santana's where she and Brittany were waiting for her to arrive. Rachel walked into Santana's home where she was greeted with Brittany's cat Lord Tubbington, and Santana giving her a tea.
Santana lead Rachel to her living room and said
"So what's going on?" Rachel took the tea as she sat down and said
"I was at the Lima Bean earlier today with Mercedes and we were near Blaine and Kurt. And I heard Kurt say that male bisexuality doesn't exist that it's just what gay boys say to hold hands with girls to cover up they are truly gay, and Mercedes agreed with Kurt." Santana was shocked and said
"That's disgusting. But that wouldn't have made you this upset." Rachel thought about it and then said
"It made me extremely upset because I like girls as well as boys. And if they think that with male bisexuality then what does that make me. I've been struggling with my bisexuality and liking of girls as well as boys for a long time. I've never spoken about this with anyone else." Brittany hugged Rachel and said
"It will be okay Rachie. I'm bisexual too." Santana smiled at her and said
"I'm a lesbian. There's nothing to be ashamed of okay. At least that's what Puck said. You can talk to Britt and I about this every night or when you want. So you aren't going through this alone and no-one can hear or anything, and its a safe space without any biphobia." Rachel was grateful and said
"I thank you both for that." Brittany gave Lord Tubbington to Rachel and said
"And at school you can hang with Santana and I too so you're away from Kurt and Mercedes' biphobia." Rachel looked at Brittany and said
"I appreciate that Brittany but I don't want to draw attention to myself and I don't want Quinn to bully my even more and accuse me of being after Finn again when I'm not." Santana took Rachel's hand and said
"We understand. if Finn or Barbie give you grief let me know and I will ends them." Rachel nodded her head and said
"I will. I should probably go. Please don't tell anyone what I told you both. It's private." Santana gave her a small smile and said
"You have our word and don't tell anyone about me." Rachel stood up, giving Brittany back her cat and said
"I won't I promise I won't." Rachel then left and Brittany turned to Santana and said
"What are you going to do about Kurt and Mercedes? and Rachel confirming to you about her being bi which you suspected, you would need to educated Tana. Puck won't be happy if you didn't" Santana folded her arms and said
"I'll think of something for Kurtcedes. and I know I will."
