Everyone could tell the relationship between Heeseung and Sunghoon had, whether they wanted to admit it or not, changed. They didn’t hold back on the scenting, spent an obscene amount of time pressed together and they didn’t hide the fondness in their eyes when looking at each other. They were freer. They didn’t seem to realise any of this themselves, denying it every time someone pointed it out. At first, everyone was convinced they were just shy or wanted to keep things private. Then, they had to accept they were morons and were actually being honest.
It was maddening for everyone in the group and a couple of other people who had caught on to what was happening. To make things worse, there was nothing they could do about it as long as Sunghoon and Heeseung continued to be in denial.
“We had you talk, why is it that you are acting like this?” Jay asked a couple of weeks after they had forced them to confront their feelings for each other.
“First, no one asked you to make us have that conversation,” Sunghoon berated. “There was no need for it, and you said you’d take full responsibility of its consequences.” He added as a reminder of his words.
“Yes, but this is not what I thought would happen,” Jay grumbled. “I thought you’d be smart and date, why the fuck didn’t you tell him you like him too?” Sunghoon frowned at Jay’s words.
“I did tell him,” Sunghoon corrected Jay.
“Then why aren’t you dating?” Jay desperately wanted to know, and it showed in his irked tone.
“Because we decided not to,” Sunghoon answered, true to the events that had happened. “I don’t know why you expected anything else, honestly.”
“Because you like each other, why wouldn’t you date? Why don’t you two ever make anything easy for the rest of us?” Jay lamented, but Sunghoon was starting to feel a little bothered by Jay’s insistence. By everyone’s insistence, actually.
“I understand that when I hated him it was a burden to the group, but this should not be any of your business,” Sunghoon let slip just how mad he truly was. “If we decide not to date, we don’t, and none of you should be concerned about it.”
Jay remained silent for a second, chastised. “You are right,” he admitted. “You are right, I’m sorry,” he continued, apologising for overstepping. “I think we all got a bit too caught up on what it could be and wanting you two to be happy that we forgot that, maybe, that isn’t what you want.” He stopped to consider his words. “I mean, to be together, I’m going to guess you do want to be happy…” he fumbled with his words as he tried to clarify himself. Sunghoon laughed at him, still kind of angry, but considerably calmer.
The subject was forgotten for a few days as they rushed around trying to finish everything in their schedule. It was an exhausting week and when they finally got time to rest, Sunghoon just wanted to sleep for as long as it was humanly possible. He’d been so tired he had forgotten he even had that conversation with Jay.
Unexpectedly, though, he could tell it’d had an impact on the group’s interactions. Most of them tried to respect the choice Heeseung and Sunghoon had made, not pressuring them to be more just because they thought they should be. Most of them except for Riki, that is. He didn’t outright say anything to them, at least Sunghoon wasn’t aware of it, but he did sometimes comment on their dynamics and pushed a bit too much for admissions. What really bother Sunghoon, however, was how he would look at them. Disappointed, angry, frustrated, envious. Sunghoon didn’t get it, but it felt wrong. Sunghoon may not understand, but he knew Riki looked hurt and desperate.
He wanted to fix that.
Sunghoon had a plan. Once he was rested enough, he’d get Riki to come have dinner with him and they would talk. It was obvious that, whatever was bothering Riki, had to do with him and Heeseung, so he would help find a solution. He considered telling Heeseung about it, maybe have him talk to Riki as well, but he quickly dismissed that idea. The two of them would be too overwhelming for Riki, probably, and he wanted to make him feel comfortable, not attacked.
