(TW: Tad bit of light physical abuse.)
Sunny and Kel left Othermart trying to forget the news that Basil had just told them. Kel tried to cheer Sunny up, even if that meant publicly embarrassing himself. As if that wasn't everyday...
"Sunny.. I know it's upsetting but we have to look on the bright side..! Basil won't be gone forever, he's just trying to get himself some help.. he's doing this for our greater good..."
"Wipe that smile off your face. We both know it's unsure and fake. Please, stop acting like you have to make every horrible situation better, what you do isn't healthy, mentally at least."
. . .
Sunny wasn't wrong, it was a lie, it was the same smile he wore everyday after Mari's death. When he tried to talk to Hero, when he would see Aubrey beating up mailboxes, when Basil kept running away from everyone and everytime he knocked on Sunny's front door, it was all the same, and it wasn't any different now.
"I.. alright..." Kel said hesitantly as he was almost about to cry.
"Come here you dumb crybaby..." Sunny sighed.
Sunny pulled Kel into a sweet embrace as Kel was on his knees sobbing into Sunny's shoulder. He was tired of trying to keep up, Sunny was the only one that realized the feelings Kel felt everytime he pulled that specific smile. Eventually, Kel broke his and Sunny's hug and wiped his tears. Kel and Sunny continued down the sidewalk until the two reached Kel's house.
"Well.. goodbye Sunny! I had a nice time with you.. I'll come back over tomorrow..!"
As Kel was about to head inside, Sunny ran up to him and hugged him.. whispering something into his ear.
"I love you, idiot."
Sunny ran a bit more ways down the sidewalk and jolted for his door, slamming it behind him.
Kel stood there in complete shock with a face more deep red than a strawberry."Did that.. did that really just happen?!"
Kel was practically freaking out not knowing what to do, if he went inside now, his parents and Hero would see how red his face was. A million questions would be asked, and if he were to say any word about being homosexual, he'd probably get kicked out right on the spot. After a few minutes, Kel calmed himself and headed inside.
"KELSEY! YOU'RE LATE!" Kel's mother shouted at Kel from the kitchen. Kel would have to make an excuse for this one.
"Sorry.. Sunny uh.. he needed some help with something-!"
Having Sunny barge into Kel's thoughts made him go red again.
"Oh, alright then, I'll let it slide this time..."
Kel was relieved he didn't have to hear another lecture from his strict mother. A few seconds after, Hero came downstairs and saw Kel. Kel still had a beet red face.
"Kel, you alright? Your face is horribly red. Are you sick?"
Kel's mother heard Hero from the kitchen and walked over to the two boys.
"Hm.. Kelsey Desoto. I know a red face like that from anywhere..."
"Eh??" Hero looked really confused.
"Oh shi-"
"YOU LIKE SOMEONE! YOU HAVE TO TELL ME WHO IT IS!"
At this point Kel wasn't embarrassed, he was scared. Scared of the outcome of him telling his mother who it is. He knows he can't deny liking someone either, his mother can tell. Even Hero looked scared, he knew his brother better than his parents did, he knew exactly who Kel liked and Hero knew if the question was answered, no good response could come from it.
