"Dezi, why are you being difficult?" My best friend Eve said as we all got ready to go out to a local pub for her bachelorette party in London.
"I didn't get in when you all did, I had to work. I'm jet lagged and I just want to sleep!" I said and she shook her head.
"Nope, come on. You are maid of honor and you have to go with us. First round of shots are on you!" She said and all the girls with us cheered.
Eve and I had been friends since third grade and we were inseparable. She went on a cruise a year ago with her family and she met Daniel Hayden. They hit it off right away, only problem...he was from London and she was from Vermont. They kept in touch and in the year, they traveled a lot to see each other. Well, he proposed 3 months ago and they were getting married in 3 days. They decided on a wedding in London since Daniel had more family than Eve did that she wanted to invite.
I wasn't wanting to go out tonight, but I knew she wasn't going to take no for an answer. I groaned and sat up on the bed I had laid down on.
"Fine, do I have to dress up?" I asked.
"No, just look hot." Eve said and I just shook my head.
I started going through my suitcase and settled on a pair of figure-hugging black jeans with small holes down the legs, a red sequined tank top and black heels. I grabbed my leather jacket as well that I wore on the plane since it was getting cooler in London at night. We all left the hotel and walked down the street to this pub they all had obviously searched for before got there. Once we walked in, we noticed how packed it was and I groaned, I hated crowds, especially around drunk idiots. The girls picked a table and then everyone looked at me.
"FIRST ROUND DEZI!" Eve yelled excitedly and I rolled my eyes but headed to the bar. The bartender walked up and me and smiled.
"What can you get you sweetheart?" He asked and it was then I realized I loved the accent. I never heard it with Daniel before which didn't shock me since he was Eve's man, I never paid attention.
"6 lemon drop shots please." I said and he nodded walking away with a wink.
"All those for you?" I heard a voice say beside me and I laughed looking at this man standing next me.
"So, I look like I have a death wish?" I asked and he shrugged.
"Don't know anything about you...haven't decided." The guys said and smiled at me. I wasn't sure why, but this man had me blushing causing me to look down at the bar. His blue eyes bore into my hazel ones and I could feel it, there was no going back. He extended his hand.
"Harry." He said.
"Destiny, but my friends call me Dezi." I said and he smiled.
"So, am I allowed to call you Dezi?" He asked. I then turned his own words against him.
"Haven't decided." I said and he laughed shaking his head as the shot were set in front of me. I went to pay and Harry stopped it.
"Bachelorette party?" He asked laying money down on the bar.
"Yeah." I said.
"Yours?" He said and I held up my left hand.
"Unattached." I said. He smiled. He then grabbed the shot for me.
"Lead the way." Harry said and I walked back to the girls.
"Lemon drops ladies!" I announced and Harry set down the shots and everyone looked at him.
"He's not a lemon drop." Taylor a preppy, annoying bridesmaid said eyeing Harry up and down.
"No, he's someone I just met and he helped me carry these to the table and paid so drink up!" I said as we all grabbed shots.
"Toast!" Margo, another bridesmaid said.
"To Eve! The luckiest out of all of us for grabbing up an Englishman!" Taylor said and I just rolled my eyes taking the shot. Harry then leaned down to my ear.
"Would I be able to steal you away from the festivities?"
I looked at Eve and she just looked at me.
"Go, I know this isn't your thing. We will do brunch the two of us tomorrow." Eve said and I smiled as I walked away with Harry.
"GET IT GIRL!" Taylor yelled and I shook my head. We got back to the bar and I ordered a whiskey as Harry ordered the same.
"So, bachelorette parties not your thing?" He asked and I sighed.
"Not just bachelorette parties but I literally just got in like 3 hours ago, jet lag is a bitch and I wanted to relax at the hotel." I said and he nodded.
"So where is home?" Harry asked.
"Brattleboro, Vermont. Small town about 12,000 people." I said and Harry nodded.
"And what do you do in Brattleboro?" Harry asked.
"Well, I make pottery and decorate it."
"Like on the pottery wheel and everything?" Harry asked and I smiled.
"Yep. Pottery wheel and all." I said and he nodded and got an evil smirk on his face. "I swear to god, you start humming or singing Unchained Melody, I punch you." I said and he laughed hysterically.
"How did you know I was thinking it?" Harry asked.
"Because every time I meet someone and tell them what I do they instantly make a reference to the movie Ghost or sing the song." I said he chuckled as I laughed. We got a refill on our drinks and I heard the girls all laughing from the table behind us and I sighed.
"You sad to be missing the fun?" Harry asked and I shook my head.
"Not in the slightest. I can't stand half the people she picked at bridesmaids, so this is so much better." I said and Henry smiled, now it was his turn to blush. I saw a dart board open.
"You play?" I asked and he nodded.
"You?"
"Nope, but I want to now." I said and we laughed. We headed to the dart board and Harry went first and the put his score on the board. I took a stance I thought looked like his and he laughed.
"What?" I asked laughing. He just shook his head and got behind me.
"Okay feet apart." Harry said kicking the slightly apart and I stumbled, he wrapped his arm around my waist to catch me.
"Heels." I said and he laughed. He then moved my throwing arm into position.
"Okay so you pull back slightly and release as you go forward." Harry said and helped me shoot the dart. It was nowhere near the bullseye but landed on the board!
"I did it!" I said and I turned and hugged Harry wrapping my arms around his neck. Once we released, I smiled at him.
"Thank you." I said and he nodded.
"Little bit more practice, you might beat me." Harry said and I took my other shots.

After a couple rounds of darts and a few glasses of whiskey I finally had to take a break.
"I'll be right back. I'm heading to the ladies' room." I said and Harry nodded. I walked into the restroom and looked at myself in the mirror leaning on the sink counter. I smiled thinking of the night I had been having with Harry and was so happy I decided to come out even if I wasn't with the girls. After I did my business, I walked back out to the bar where I left Harry and he was gone. I looked at the bartender.
"That guy I was with, have you seen him?" I asked.
"No sorry." He said and I looked confused around the bar and he was nowhere to be found. I groaned and then just walked back to the girls at the table.
"Where's hottie?" Eve slurred and I shook my head.
"Gone. I went to the ladies' room, came back and he was gone." I said and there was an audible aww from the table of woman.
"You know what you need..." Taylor said and I groaned. "SHOTS!" She yelled and ran to the bar. I just groaned and leaned my head on Eve's shoulder.
"You did get the last good Englishman." I said and we both gave a small laugh.
