Chapter 5

The next day was just like other days but when we got the good news we were pretty excited because we had a class trip scheduled for the second term I obviously planned not to go because I didn't like the ideas of trips I prefer being in my room with my phone or PC but not this time because Maya kept on bugging me to join in… And I had no other option but to accept her request and I was really sure that being with them on this class trip would be fun. We made plans on the things we would buy for the trip and everything just as we were jotting them down all of a sudden the classroom door swung open and everyone’s attention was drawn to the front
 
“We have a new student joining us today, she’s not very new because she has been in the science class and now I’m sure she has finally decided on her future so she came here” Mr. Paul said
Maya and I looked and behold it was none other but Ayesha

“OMG! Ayesha you came!! Are you now a student of this class?” I asked her

“Yesss!”  She said excitedly as she rushed to give us a tight hug

“I can't believe it … Tell us how it went” Maya said

“Well as you guys advised I talked with Mrs. Evans and she helped talk to my mom about my future and how important it was for me to choose what I really want to specialize on and just like a miracle it actually worked” She explained

“Wow! Well let’s just be happy that you’re here and we can have a friendship trio!” Maya said in total delight as she was leaping up and down for joy, we hugged her in excitement because finally she was going to do what she always wanted, She sat beside Maya and they soon started talking and bonding… I wasn't surprised because Maya was a chatterbox, she gets along with everyone and making new friends is like drinking water to her… I started to feel left out so I just backed out of the conversation and tried to create a study timetable for myself
The math teacher came to class
And my mood instantly changed.. I don't know but I never liked math ever since the Alphabets were included It was simple when : 1 + 1 = 2
But since it changed to; X + 7 = 2y (that’s obviously not correct) I lost interest and confusion ruled my life

But I needed to like the subject if I wanted to pass it and have a great mark on my final exams so I made myself a promise to concentrate no matter what. We learnt basic Arithmetic then equations and surds and I tried really hard to concentrate because I never did in middle school, I understood and I couldn't imagine the Joy in my heart. After class I turned over to Maya and Ayesha

“Psst.. psst... I understood all the topics we did today!” I whispered

“Congratulations!” they both said

“I'm very good at Math so it was easy” Ayesha said

“I'm not very good but I try” Maya added

“Well I am totally bad but I concentrated today and I understood it so well, I'm so happy right now!” I said almost screaming

“Congratulations… You just need to concentrate and practice it more, before you know it you'll be an expert in mathematics” Ayesha advised

“Thank you” I said and smiled

During English class we began from parts of speech and I was actually the first to be done when a class work was given , Maya was done too after few minutes … I noticed Ayesha found it hard to finish her work and struggled to answer the questions so I went to her seat and explained it to her, She thanked me and answered the rest in her own. We passed our works and got everything right with an excellent comment
It was soon time for break and we went out of class and bought food I spotted Jordan talking with one of his friends, I rushed to him and hugged him

“Guess what?” I told him

“You finally understood math?” He asked

*Gasp* “How did you know?” I asked felling confused

“Well, when I first understood math this was my reaction. I was literally so happy and overjoyed and in so much bliss” He said laughing

“We should've been twins” I said to him as I held his hand tightly

“You already have one, don’t you?” he replied

“Anyways, I have to go my friends are waiting for me” I added as I withdrew my hand from his and waved him goodbye

I joined Maya and Ayesha on the lunch table and we started to eat and talk mostly about our recent math class and how I understood. It crossed my mind that all these years I had this mindset that I would never understand math no matter how I tried and as a result it would negatively have an impact on my future. But look at me now, I understood math and this was the beginning of a new start and I was motivated to try solving more math equations or different problem
“You’re like really happy today Hannah and I hope it continues this way because we love to see you this way” Ayesha said as she continued eating her lunch

“Yesss, it makes me happy when I see her in a good mood” Maya added
We kept on chit chatting and laughing at every joke we told each other, I was having a great times and happy I had the best friends ever just then, Jamie came to join in

“Girls can I join” He asked

Even before I could say no, I was interrupted by Maya
“Yes sure you can, it’s actually boring in here” She said to him. We both looked at her knowing fully well that it was an obvious big lie. He carried his lunch and sat beside me and I was pretty uncomfortable and I don't like it when he interrupts my time with the girls
“Good day ladies, so how's the humanities class?” he asked

“Fine” I replied instantly

“The science class is no fun... We have so many smart students there including your sister and most times I don’t even get noticed because she's been participating so well in class and performing really well” He explained

“Cool” I replied, looking down on my food and not being able to eat. Maya and Ayesha looked at me disappointedly but at that moment I didn’t really care and wanted him to leave immediately 

“Why are your replies cold, did I do something wrong?” He asked

“Not really, I'm just tired from all the calculations I did in math class” I replied

“I know the look you give when you're lying.. we'll talk later probably on phone once you get home” He Said then he left , I don't even know why I was mad at him and why I'm proving to be so difficult times

“Who's he? And who's savannah?” Maya asked

“Umm, Hannah? When I was in the science class I saw someone exactly like you, I later found out that her name is Savannah and she had a twin sister in the Humanities class. I also remember this boy that just left we sat together when I was there” She said

“Yes you’re right. Savannah is my twin sister, haven't you noticed we're literally exactly alike and people can only tell us apart by the clothes we wear, I’m sorry I forgot to mention it to you both and he's Jamie my male bestie but he probably loves Savannah now so I try to keep my distance” I said to her

“You didn't tell me you're a twin, that's so cool” Maya said “And yes, I did notice remember that day I told you that I was mad at you because I saw you talking to some girls and I was calling you but you didn't really pay attention to me and just avoided me, also are u jealous of his bond with Savannah?” She asked

“Yes I do remember that must be Savannah you saw not me also no of course not I'm not jealous... I just feel they're together because they're like super close and friendly to each other and Jamie doesn't treat me the same way he treats Savannah ' I told them

“Ahh... Ok well it makes sense if you ask me though, and that Jamie guy sounds really nice though he cared about you” Maya told me

“Yeah but I just have this awkward feeling about him and to be honest no offense but I don't really trust him ... Knowing that you and your sister are in difficult times and he's acting so cool about it’ Ayesha said

“No worries guys let's just forget about it. We're determined to focus more on school and do great on our test and examination” I said

“Yeah you're right” Maya agreed

We heard the bell and lunch time was over and we had to go back to class we had 3 more subjects and soon it was already time to go home, upon reaching home I went to my room and took a shower then rested because I was exhausted.... I wanted to ask Savannah if anything was going on between her and Jamie... But what was my business in it anyway? I asked myself rhetorically

Just then I got a text message from Jamie asking why I was cold or feeling blue earlier today in school… I just had to pick up a quick excuse which was I was just nervous that test week was coming up and luckily he believed me, we talked and talked till we felt sleepy and said goodnight to each other

Well test week is almost here and I couldn't be more nervous than ever but at least I was always encouraging myself and I felt like I have gotten rid of the fear already what could be harder than this or was it automatically going to be much more worse?
