It was getting worse. Everything. Weeks had passed since that night in the Slytherin Common Room and although I found her to be extremely quiet, she was still there. The Obscurus was pulling at the chains softer than she had been. At an excruciatingly slow pace that almost hurt me more than before.
"You want us to what?" Alecto spoke up.
We stood in an empty classroom. The Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom to be exact. I had sat myself down in the chair behind the desk, head now in my hands as my elbows leaned against the wood. The Carrow twins stood in front of me.
"I want you to bring more regularity to your patterns," I repeated. "Have a particular route you take every night."
"And give the little worms a system they can cheat?" Amycus added. He was snarling. "I don't think so."
Come up with a lie Lyra. Come on. "You're neglecting entire hallways for hours because of this system you have," I told them, shaking my head. "Yes, having a route will give them a way to figure out your movements, but it is better than the alternative. I found a student over in the West corridor last night because you decided to hover around the East corridors for hours. He had a whole picnic date set up for him and some Gryffindor. Merlin knows how long he was up there."
They didn't reply to me immediately, giving each other a small glance. I took a deep breath, standing up. "Look," I began. "Just make a system. You'd be surprised how little punishment you'll have to give."
"The punishments are the highlights of our day," Alecto told me, letting out a small smile. "Their pain is joy to my ears."
"The Dark Lord needs witches and wizards to create a new age of magic," I tried. "Your persistent abuse of the students is only turning them against us. Their allegiances will change and then we'll just have to kill them all. I love throwing curses at small, pestering children as much as the next witch, but there must be an order to the chaos." The lie was sour on my tongue.
Amycus nodded shortly with a sigh. "We will form a route."
"Good," I replied, hands leaning against the desk. "Let me know what it is when you do. I'll make sure to cover the blind spots," I paused. "No one will get past us."
Snape entered the room without warning, leaving the door open behind him. "I must speak with Miss Black."
The Carrow twins nodded curtly, sending me a small glance before leaving the room.
"What can I do for you Snivellus?" I asked, moving around the desk and leaning my back against it. My head was spinning as the small ticking sound of her chains echoed in my mind.
"I have some news," he explained, approaching me quickly.
"What kind of news?"
"Me," a different voice entered the room.
I didn't need to turn to the open door to know who it was, sending Snape a small glare. He gave me an innocent smile, moving aside so that I could watch my mother make her way towards us.
"What are you doing here Estrella?" I asked, taking a deep breath.
"I'm your new teacher. Defence Against the Dark Arts," she explained.
"I thought the Carrow twins were doing that," I replied, looking at Snape.
"The Dark Lord thinks I will be better suited here," she answered.
