Riley

After first mod I hadn't gotten a chance to talk to Skyler.

Something wasn't right.

Just then four girls walked up to me.

"So you're the famous Riley. The girl who swept our Skyler off his feet."

I should have felt flattered but I knew where this conversation was going.

"He's too good for you. He doesn't need some redneck weirdo like you in his life."

I didn't need time to think about what I was going to say.

"You know what? That's not for you to decide. He can like whoever he wants too. You're just jealous you couldn't pull Mr. Captain of the team, and I think you guys should back the hell off before I turn your pom poms into confetti."

The girls exchanged glances.

Just then Skyler walked around the corner. "You should probably listen to her before you regret speaking to her to begin with."

One of the girls backed up a few steps.

"Blaine was right. You aren't a real part of the team anymore. Guess last night didn't knock any sense into you?"

He stepped closer, looming over them with anger burning in his eyes.

"Guess what? I'm still captain bitch." He said looking at her as if she was absolute trash.

Clearly scared they waved him off and walked away.

As they disappeared down the hallway they talked amongst themselves in a gossipy manner.

"What are they talking about?" Turning my full attention to him.

Skyler

"Are you ok?" I asked, trying to dodge the question.

She muttered something to herself before looking up at me.

"They beat you up didn't they? That's why there's a bruise on your face?"

"And a cracked rib." I said not looking her in the eyes.

When I finally did look up I saw pure hatred on her face but it wasn't directed at me.

"I told you. They're too good for everyone. It's not worth messing up your reputation with them over me."

I processed what she was saying.

Then it hit me.

"No. Absolutely not. I'd rather ruin my reputation than be without you. Their opinion isn't going to come between that. And that's final."

The anger and disappointment melted slightly from her features and she offered a slight smile.

"You have no idea how much I wish those girls would get their hair stuck in their hair dryers." I said pulling her close.

She tilted her head up at me.

"Likewise." She rested her hand softly on my side and smoothed her thumb over the bandages under my shirt.

"I love you." She said quietly.

I pressed my lips to hers before taking her hand and walking her home.
