There you were, grieving the loss of your father and yet sitting face to face with the late Flame Hashira; the old confidant of (f/n) (l/n), the late Mist Hashira. Shinjuro Renguko looked pale, stiff, and constantly angry and he stenches alcohol. You went from a father who hid behind mutism to an alcoholic man. Which was better? None. Yet, you couldn't bring yourself to blame Shinjuro Renguko or your father. Who were you to judge them after all? You were a mere girl, unable to join the corps. You couldn't be picky. "I thank you for accepting my presence and offering me a roof over my head until my life and state get stable." You now politely, your head almost hitting the top of the table. "I owed your father." For a moment, you thought that was all he was gonna say but - "You can stay as long as you want. I promised your father I'd look over you if something happened to him. A promise is a promise."

"Thank you."

"I'll take care of your treatments as well." You smiled and bowed again. He nodded. "In exchange I expect you to help my youngest with chores and learning. Don't bother me if uneccesarry."

"Naturally."

On that note, he looked at his son who didn't appear to be older than 14. "Senjuro will show you the house and lead you to your room."

The young blonde who had already been quiet, seemed to only tense up once after his father introduced him. So you gave him a smile, hoping it would relax him. It did.

"This is your room," he said as he slid open the door once the visit was complete. "I brought your bags earlier (l/n)-san."

"You can call me (y/n). After all, I'll probably stick around for a moment." He smiled shyly, making his gold and red eyes look sparkly. "Alright, (y/n)-san." You smiled. "I'll let you install yourself."

"Thank you Senjuro-san. I hope we'll get along." You shared a compliance smile and you entered the room. You threw clothes and objects around. It didn't matter what truly had worth in your eyes was your father's katana. The breath of relief that escaped your mouth when you finally hung it up was fresh and sweet. You and your father weren't close; he always refused to teach you Mist Breathing because of your frail composition. Fainting out of the blue or getting tired for no obvious reason would obviously be a very inconvenient trait for a further but couldn't he at least teach you one!? To defend yourself! So you observed him and taught yourself. Back to you old man! You weren't strong. You were just good enough to push away a possible demon attack and make an opening for escape. Yet, you kept your promise "Never let our illness get the better of you. You're not your sickness." Hanging up your father's katana was not only a memorial to his strength but also to remind you to never give up even if no one was willing to give you a helping hand. "Now I got to put everything else away..." you sighed as you turned around to look back at the mess you made.

It's been a week. Slowly but surely, you were getting more confident in your new environment. For example, now you knew where the garbage was in the kitchen (the hardest thing to find in a kitchen I swear). Confident enough to go take walks in the neighbourhood without getting lost...Of course, Senjuro's presence did help A LOT. Speaking of walks and Senjuro, you two were making your way to the market. To buy ingredients to make a great meal as tonight Kyojyro was meant to come back home. Senjuro always took the time to do this and the fact he asked your help for it did touch you. "What are you planning to make tonight exactly?"
