Sitting, facing you, he analyzed the situation; he was in a safe space; the butterfly estate. Yet, he was alone with you, a demon. "Yes."
You nodded and tapped the pencil nervously. "I will explain. I will try to make it as concise as I can. If you have any questions, stop me."
"Shinazugawa Genya might be the key. The key to a newfound humanity for us." These words Tamayo had spoken reached your core. Shaking the remaining strings of hope. For those who were lied to. Promised an easier life, far from pain and suffering but discovered this came with the terrible sin of taking lives. Not out of desire but out of urging need. In the end, even in immortality subsisted fear.
"We work hand in hand with Lady Shinobu. You must know her, I assume?"
He nodded.

"Yes."
"What do I have to do with that?" You gulped. Shy at the situation. "From...what we've heard, you are able to change into a demon when you consume our kind's flesh. Your case is very much interesting and could help answer many of our burning questions. Naturally, this isn't an order but a request. If you wish to not get involved, you shall say so and your decision will be respected."
His pupils widened. His purple eyes, menacing quickly turned into the ones of a surprised kid. "You're...interested in me?"
"Yes. Your DNA could hold the answers."
"What exactly would you need from me?"
"Simple tests and blood samples. Both human and demon."

Along with you, the youngest Shinazugawa participated actively in the research. Nodding and accepting he did his best to offer you and the others the best results. Over the last weeks, you had developed a sweet spot for the teenager. Yet, something was bothering you so, an evening, as he rested from the exercises, you dared ask: "Why have you eaten flesh for at first? What went through your mind?"
"I wanted to become stronger." You smiled bitterly at this. Thinking back of your own life. Your desire of strength drove you to madness and this opportunity you took drive you in bloodshed. "That's a shame."
"Huh?"
"Humanity is filled with many things. Strength should not be it's priority. The small joys, yes. A smile..." Silence. "Of course, you have your reasons and I'm certain they're valid but...what would I have done for someone to tell me that humanity was worth it. I don't want to lecture you but..."

"Yes...its been long since...i haven't smiled. A true smile, coming from my heart. A warm smile."
