Leaves got crushed and crumbled under each step of yours as you made your way toward the Mist Estate slowly. Once arrived, you started to look around, searching around for the Hashira. The kinoto you were always ended up being matched up with him for missions and from this emerged a communal understanding and a strong friendship so you'd come to visit from time to time.

There was no sign of the young the lad on the porch. You hummed and started looking around and eventually, walking around you found him : Sitting on a bench, close to the forest trail, Muichiro quietly played with a wood stick. His empty-looking mint-green eyes sparkling ever so lightly whenever it would stay still on his finger for over 5 seconds. His glaze would quickly turn back to their usual unbothered attribute whenever the stick would fall against the hard rocks. He'd sigh, yet, he'd try again.

You sat next to him, silently. A warm silence.

"Human fingers are too plump for that," you explained as you bent down, grabbing a new branch. "But if your skin is humid, it will stay longer." His interest peeked, he looked at you, expecting an example. Slowly you brushed your index against your lips, poking your tongue so it would humidify the surface of your finger. After some time, like a mama bird with her child, you let go. "See?"

He copied your exact movements but insisted much longer on the humidity. He stretched his tongue as much as he could and put his index right on the surface and not on the tip. He was determined. The branch didn't stay long, however. "Oh." That's all he said as he saw the branch, for the thousand times, fall. "You're giving up?" He frowned and grimaced. "No. Never."

The sky soon got darker, as to bring bad news as Ginko, slid amongst the cloud. Only diving toward his master when ready. "Caw! Caw! An attack at a north village. Please go there immediately!"

You didn't waste time. You both split up. Him toward the west and you at the east of the village. It had been an hour since the crow had informed the two of you of the situation and yet you felt like you did little to no advancement. You had made the villagers evacuate, sure but you felt exhausted from the scratches and bored by the demon's most nervewracking speech. "I haven't had the chance to wear that new party dress that I bought at a steep discount back in August. You can't kill me. It would be terribly rude!" She stomped and fumed as you stood there, unsure to feel pity or annoyance. You chose the second. "Loser always has time to talk...winner always has time to execute!" you positioned, your sword ready to leave a wound the enemy wouldn't recover from and before they could even whisper, you rushed. "Breath of the Wind First Form: Dust Whirlwind Cutter."

You sighed. "How does it feel to lose against a fourteen years old?"

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Muichiro, who didn't even bother to move an inch, clapped. "Wah." Actually, since when had he arrived?

You turned and frowned as you saw a line of blood leaking from his cheek. The demon he had fought on his side was lucky to have even managed to brush him. "You're bleeding." He shrugged. "So are you." Tired, you sighed as you walked up to the Hashira. You couldn't bother to ask him why he didn't aid you in your fight. You already knew the answer: "Unnecessary." It wasn't from laziness. He saw you were handling the situation and didn't want to get in the way of your accomplishment.

"Should we go to the Butterfly Estate?" he asked, reaching for your shoulder who had a prominent cut. He brushed his fingers against it, barely but it was enough for you to clench your teeth. "Oh."

Silent.

"So we should go?" You nodded, squeezing his hand. You leaned your head against his shoulder, allowing a relieved sigh to escape your lips. "Don't go and die on me. It would make me...sad," he mumbled the last part. "Sorry?"

"Disappointed. I said it would make me disappointed." Little did he know that you had actually heard very well the first time.
