Hotaru Haganezuka was passionate. Chaotic, stubborn and egotistical but passionate. Toward all his works he'd feel pride and the realization that he, after all, might have found his path.

So when each time he'd received a letter from Kamado Tanjiro, Hotaro would scream as if his soul had been broken in half: the demons claiming it as theirs. "HOW COULD YOU!?"

"Kamado?" you'd ask, knowing full well that he was indeed the culprit of Hotaru's downfall to madness.

"THIS BOY HIS A DEMON!"

"Oh? But I thought he was slaying demons?" And every time you'd feel death close breath whenever you tempted it like such.

"Don't worry—the first 30 years of childhood are always the hardest."

"Haganezuka-san! That's so mean!"

And you'd lose him yet again in a spiral of work. He was chaotic but focused. Terrifyingly focused. So much so that everyone would beg you to keep an eye on him while he worked. Haganezuka could drown himself so much in the job that he'd forget to eat. You always agreed. You'd work next to him, pulling him by his weak spots for every meal, rarely met with anger: to the whole village's surprise. He wasn't known for his delicacy.

"It's time for dinner, Haganezuka-san."

"I'm focused. I'll finish first." He shooed you away.

"I already allowed you to skip lunch today. You can continue later, even pull an all-nighter if you want but please, at least eat correctly." You'd usually never say such a thing, believing rest was key to your art but you know just how much he was involved with that particular slayer.

"You're so insistent. It's annoying."

He lied. He loved that you'd care for him like that. Yet, you were patient, not weak. "Hotaru." There was no pushing your limits. He knew.

He sighed. "What's for dinner?"

"My homemade yakitori!" you clapped.

"Those that you marinate in honey?"

"Yup!"

Maybe taking a break wasn't really all that bad in the end. "I want four."
