The damp earth was chilling, the trees barren, no grass padded the floor, upturned roots, and soil laid about the ground. The forest was torn, battered, abused by the passing wind currents.

A small pond crystal as glass and reflecting the depleted environment. Dipping his snout near the water he could finally see the small clouds that flew from his nose. His pink tongue came to wipe away the cold drip that had formed.

A whine left his mouth as the reflection in the water showed clear than day what he was. 60 pounds of bones, fur, flesh, and teeth; he wasn't accustomed to being a wolf. Primary a cat sufficed; but the power, the strength in his legs along was something he could not ignore.

Hovering on the water he let his tongue slip into the water and carry it back to his mouth. The curling and drinking came with a learning curve; dip, after dip after dip he fell into a steady rhythm.

The feline form was easier to drink, smaller, more methodical, easier to learn.

Strength could always be outwitted by swiftness; you don't need to worry about how strong your opponent is if they can't hit you. Tire them then attack, it worked time and time again.

Snapping of twig shot through Rin's pricked ears as his head darted up from the pound. Growling replaced any trace of nauseating cowardice; tail tucked between his thighs his head reeded over to the source of the noise.

"Found you~," A ghostly call passed by Rin. "I apologize for being scaring you earlier. Time has become rather idiosyncratic since leaving my host,"

"I knew it had to be you. Dem got a little spastastic when he felt someone in our dreamscape," The tail untucked, resting outstretched as Rin turned towards the esteemed demon king. "I know the other well enough that they wouldn't return so quickly to apologize. Let me guess you are here about Axis as well?"

"Well no, I did hear about a new prince but I don't wish to get involved in politics," Azazel stepped around the brush carefully to avoid any more sticks or stones that may graze his uncovered feet. "I'm more interested in how you are holding up. You haven't visited me in quite some time; I got worried,"

"Sorry," Rin was quick to apologize only to follow with his snake tongue. "Work has been rather... Ya'know life can get-,"

"You mustn't need lie Rin. I understand, you don't want to ponder on an empty mind for long," Lifting the hem of his robed he sat next to the wolf. "But did you not recall my telling of you to search for me when you felt lonely?"

"I- You aren't the first one that comes to mind when I think of someone to comfort me," Rin danced between his paws hopping between the two options. "Not to mention I haven't been focused on myself more as I have been on my training. If I am ever going to have a chance at defeating him then-,"

"Nonsense," His head shook the resting frown shifting to a smile "You are plenty strong and have quite the array of abilities. The only thing you need is a barrier spell and I am certain Samael will be more than happy to provide it. But as I stated I am not here for politics. I am here for you Rin. You haven't visited your family at all this year,"

"I know, I just can't bring myself to see them,"

"Healing is harder than being wounded. I have seen far too many being overwhelmed by their grief, I don't want you to fall into that trap Rin," His hand came around the base of his chin lifting it to meet his eyes. "Promise me you won't let it consume you,"

"You say that like there is something to save,"

"I keep telling him to not make those jokes but he never listens," A secondary pair of feet padded against the floor, or paws better yet.
