"Rin please, I'm sorry," Shura called as Rin kept up his pace, Axis following him ingrown the calls from behind them.
"Rin I'm sorry for snapping at you. I should never have paired the two of you together," Shura cried, sprinting to catch up to where Rin jogged still clutching his arms.
Frivolous were her attempts. She couldn't sway Rin into stopping. He was set, dedicated to a locale, somewhere beyond that moment. Somewhere else, just to decompress let himself burst and spend the energy further on something productive.
He strolled until the halls became familiar, memorized, and known. Shadows of his footprints from moments prior still lingered down the hall, translating all the way until his branch.
But he continued on after that, still searching for something, anything to help him calm resolution. Anything, anywhere a place to just stop for a moment. Have things freeze just so he could breathe.
Just for things to stop.
Ticks slowed as voices stretched. Moving but at a standstill pace, jerking still.
Rin stopped, his feet pressing into his soles. Axis seemed mostly unfazed like the rest were still but yet his face shown confusion and concern for a new form.
Then they were back, Axis stood at his side, and commotion buzzed in the halls by passersby. Mephisto stood in front of them once more folding an unbroken cane in an unbruised body.
"And where would you have me go?" Tapping his umbrella cane against the floor, his eyes traveling over to Rin a grin carving at the edge of his lips.
"I don't know, just somewhere else," Pointing down the hall towards the door, his frame simultaneously shifted becoming harder and stiffer at a moment's notice. "Anywhere else. Just stop following us,"
This was the same, the words, setting, even the clocks on the walls read minutes before...
A restart? No, a true second chance.
"Samael do you not trust me?"
"Pardon?"
"You told Azazel to not let me deceive him, implying you do not believe me to be trustworthy," Rin paused letting his words marinate. "And I do recall you saying we must hold trust if we are to work alongside each other,"
"Yes, I suppose I did say that... Well, I do not doubt your ability in reasoning and logic but I didn't work sleeplessly to get them to abandon their bodies just for you to come around and ruin it all," Anger possibly irritation, but it sounded farce a shell of true emotion.
Maybe he would have been angry at some point, but not now. He knew it didn't matter at this point.
"Well, things are different now. The concentrate is draining, Azazel can no longer communicate easily with his representatives, and Shemihaza has free range of the court with little balancing forces," arms moving to express his points, something about the jerky movements made him feel seen. "I think it's in our best interest to have them in hosts because we need to consult them moving forward in regards to Satan,"
"What are you implying?"
Whatever it was it was working, he now had more than listing, true interest.
"If I do succeed in disposing of Lucifer then the war will be near end and all we will need to do is rid the universe from Satan,"
SImply spoken easily as if in action it wouldn't cost lives.
"And what happens then? How would we ever stop Satan from returning? someone would need to step up and take his mantel,"
Someone would need to fill the role, or not. If an ego for all creation popped up once again then Rin or one of the other kings could find a way to befriend or at least soothe them.
