Mephisto slid the door open further, stepping in gracefully. "Iblis has surrendered and requested a plea deal with the order. But she is refusing to work out the terms of the deal without you there Rin," His cape caught the edge of the door wrapping itself in the hinges.

"Why would she want me of all beings there with her?" Rin scoffed, waving away the comments.

"I am not aware of her exact reasons but I assume it is because of your branch. Her kin tends to struggle with finding hosts so if she could secure a deal with you then that grants them opportunities to find bodies," Mephisto explained; tugging his cape away from the clamping twist it formed around the metal hinge.

"Fine then, but after that's done we are getting ice cream,"

"So that means you're paying?" Mephisto inquired freeing his cape from the door.

"I wasn't talking to you," Rin stuck his tongue out.

"Yeah Ice creams sound good," Alex chuckled wiping the moist residue from their cheeks.

"Good," Rin smiled back at them. "Now you two shoo, and close the door on your way out," Rin brushed them away with the flick of his wrist.

"Rude," Mephisto muttered, closing the door and being careful to have his cape be free.

As done before Rin slid his key into the door, turning it clockwise and letting it slip open.

Chaos bellowed through the halls.

People with fire extinguishers rushing one way and others with fire familiars rushing the other. A quick sudo-evacuation of all the things Iblis had dominion over.

Rin cast a look over his shoulder before diving into the crowd, Alex and Axis knew the command well enough. Stay behind me and stay close.

Clasping hands Alex and Axis walked side by side. Moving in the small wake of safety Rin had to offer.

Even around the rushing people, and ragging fear; it felt nice.

Their hand embracing his, wrapped tightly together in a comforting yet soft embrace.

Promising to never let go, never stray, or get caught up in something more.

This was more than the chaperone's grip on his hand as they walked to a field trip, more than the chain of students being lead to school.

This was something other than a flimsy elementary crush.

Love?

No.

Not love, they had only known each other since the beginning of school.

Surely there was a name for something like this, something to call it.

Not a crush, not lust, just a desire to be close. Maybe not even romantically just to be there with her. Safe and comfortable with each other.

She may not even feel the same way, this could all just be a skipping though, a passing moment. Maybe he was encouraging, overstepping his bounds in her life.

She had already been through so much today, what good would come of overanalyzing hand-holding?

She just needs a friend today, and that's it. Just someone to talk to... That's all.

That's all he is. Just a friend. Just someone to talk to...

Just for today, the least he could do was be there. Unchanging steady, a comforting stone statue to find comfort in under the pale moonlight.

She needed him more than ever now. Platonic support, all she needed was that. Just a friend.

"Axis are you alright?" Alex whispered into the cartilage of his ear.
