Another day of class like any other, or unlike any other. Alex and Axis had finished their assignment early, a basic sketch of an outfit silhouette. A simple summer dress. Skirt resting an inch above knee level with the hem of the bodice pinching the fabric in, creating a simple wave at the trim of the skirt.

The teacher walked around the room gauding his student's success thus far. Most everyone was set to work, debating the mediocre details of ribbon or lace, gold or silver trim.

His grazing eyes fell upon the two students; who were currently scratching off homework from the day of their to-do lists.

"Well, I take it the two of you are done with your first draft?"

"Yes Sir," Alex nodded.

"I must say I am rather impressed at how quickly you got this done," He cooed looking at the sketch balanced between the table length. "Have you two also decided who will be modeling your design?"

"Yes, I will be modeling," Axis sighed eyes glazed over as he looked down at his paper. "She promised me here snacks for a week,"

"I don't think I will ever get to put him in a dress again. So I will ensure it will be photo-worthy," Alex smirked holding their papers as they stuffed them into a folder.

"Very well then. I will leave you to your homework,"

Alex had proved to be reliable, in terms beyond keeping a secret. Alex was able to stay focused and come to a compromise, both made for very useful traits in a work partner. Alex's ability to gain respect from teachers was also admirable; Alex spoke as an individual rather than several students. It was hard to not notice her amongst the blur of faces that never interacted or spoke up in class.

Alex was engaged, inspired, and dedicated; it was only a matter of time till she got what she wanted.
Rin pushed along Axis's leg only to circle the object and plop onto the ground, using the polished surface as a pillow. The wisp of his cotton tail fur budging on the lip of the chair.

An audible reaction alerting Alex who chortled at the sight of the pretentious feline. His white pampered paws and crystal claws seeled against the floor as he continued his precious performance.

Two tables adjacent a sly whisper broke the air.

"Do you think they are dating?"

"Why would anyone date a freak?"

Axis ear flickered as he heard the voices slide past his inner canal as it echoed across the membrane to be processed by his innermost organs. His head already ached with the stress of his work the mouse-like chatter only coiled around that ache; pressing just as real as Rin laid on his foot.

If they truly had such an issue with him being there they could at least be brave enough to tell him to his face.

"Axis," Alex sighed. "Don't waste your energy on them for me. They have never been nice ever since they found out my origins"

"But..." His lounge froze, merging with his upper jaw.

They weren't walking about him?

He didn't know or recognize them, but that didn't stop others in the past.

"Why?"

"Because they want to ignore their issues while still feeling validated so they rip into others. I also suspect it's because they don't understand what opposite-sex friends are,"

"Maybe they don't like you because you stole all the gender,"

"I didn't steal it," Alex gasped, a fake tear coming to her eye. "I burnt it,"
