Chapter 30
(Courage)
I took a break and then talked to some patients while Jazzie was operating on the little girl. I had a wonderful conversation with a old man until Jazzie page me. I made my way to pediatric unit and I was thrilled to know Faith surgery went well. I bought her a teddy bear and balloons and I checked on her every hour. Jazzie left when our shift was over but I stayed. Around midnight Faith woke up. She smiled at me and hugged me tight. We talked for a bit and then I told her I would be back in the morning. When I arrived home my daughter was still wide awake. She was in her swing and Jazzie was asleep on the couch. I kissed her cheek and she awakened. "We need to talk about something" I said as she sat up. "You're going to suggest we become foster parents and take in Faith" Jazzie said. Before I could respond she said she knows me and she's on board. She saw how I connected with Faith and knew I wouldn't want her going into a group home or somehow ending up back with her mom. She explained she already started the paperwork and talked to her social worker. I hugged her tight and after that our daughter began crying. Jazzie walked off upstairs and I changed our baby then put her to sleep. In the morning Jazzie was on her way to the morgue and a crime scene and I made my way to the hospital. After clocking in, I went straight to Faith room. A nurse had just dropped off breakfast to her. She was happy to see me and gave me a hug. We chatted for a little bit. As we were talking Jazzie texted me telling me what I needed to get done. I let Faith know I would be back later and I got straight to work. Of course it was the front desk. Jazzie loves putting me here because she knows I hate it. I enjoy being more hands on and talking to the patients. When my lunchbreak came around I checked on Faith who was sleeping. I left quietly and then I bumped into my beautiful wife who was stuffing her face with a donut. "Some of the frosting got on your cheek" she said. Before I could respond her lips were a few inches from mine. She said all gone and now I wanted her. She winked at me and before I could respond she said maybe later. She then headed to her office and I headed to the break room. I made cup noodles and after eating I checked on Faith and we talked for a bit then I went to Jazzie office. I was excited to be assisting her in taking patients. After taking a few people a fight broke out in the waiting area. From there it was constant non stop situations and emergencies. We arrived home around midnight and once the babysitter left we went straight to bed.
