Some years ago...
There was a certain time in your life when you were Gwen's favourite child. That certain time in your life where he had smothered you with all the things that you wanted, gifts, he'd take you horse riding every afternoon, the same way he had done with Aida and Aisha. Though, it was clear enough that his favourite now was Aida.
But that time, you felt happy that your father had his attention towards you. Who wouldn't be? He was a head of something, and you had lost your real one. You were thankful enough that he decided to have the kindness to take you in, take the position as your caring and doting father.
Although at one certain time you realized that he did something wrong. That he wasn't that kind and a pure father as you thought he was. He was a monster. Not the ones portrayed in those fairytale books that were enormous, was red, had a tail and two large horns over his head. He was a normal human being that was the epitome of a monster.
It was nighttime.
Crickets outside the room could be heard from the opened windows along with the wind that softly whistled. Overall, everything had felt calming, even with your step-father's voice that soothed the three of you.
You were on the bed of Aida's, as she was - almost becoming a habit - resting on her younger twin's bed. Something about how she felt like someone was watching her every night time, whether from the windows that were opened or the 'monster' under her bed, so she decided to sleep next to Aisha, leaving the older twin's bed empty most of the time.
With your father reading a bedtime story, the twin's eyes fluttering open and close, sleep ever so slowly taking over them - with you, seating cross legged on top of the plush bed, eyes still wide and seemed to be not closing any time soon. This was a daily occurence for the four of you. The time before bed, all of you will be in the twin's room. Your father would read the same story and neither the three of you would get tired of it.
" There was Goldilock's yellow head which - "
" Father, " You could not resist the giggle that you tried to keep from your throat as you interrupted him, he looked at you with an inquisitive look. Gwen turned his head to where your finger was pointing at, smiling to himself upon seeing what you were trying to point at.
" Not even halfway through the story and they already fell asleep, huh? " Gwen chuckled and looked at you, who laughed in reply.
" They must be really tired from the games we played hours ago. " He hummed curiously and closed the book and let it rest on his lap, smiling at you, his eyes crinkling.
" What games did you play? " At that question, you felt giddy and shuffled a little in your place, grinning. You told him all the games that the three of you have played. Hide and seek, hopscotch, dolls and lastly, charades. You exaggerated your story with hand gestures and laughed when you found the situations that had happened funny, although in a quiet way to not disturb the twins that were in slumber beside the bed you were in.
Gwen chuckled at his seat, finding your stories laughable too. He stood up from his seat
" But father, I don't feel sleepy yet. " You pouted at him and crossed your arms.
He frowned a little at your statement, stating with his finger with how children your age should be in bed right now. Standing there for a while, his grip on the book tightened ever so slightly before he smiled and nodded. As if he thought of a good and bright idea, a solution to that small problem.
