Chapter 9

"Do you know where she took him?" Jake asks Ni'awtu about Mo'at and Tox.
"She just said she'll take him. She didn't tell me where" Ni'awtu says, "but I trust her. I know she will look after him."

"The forest. She's taken him to the forest" Neytiri says, "I know where she is. I can guarantee that Tox is safe."
"But we are not are we? The people. This place, something bad is about to happen" Ni'awtu says.

Neytiri and Jake look at each other. 
"How did this happen? I don't understand. Unless Ionia has some connections with the sky people?" Ni'awtu says. When she realises what she's just said she looks to Lo'ak, "her partner that was with her. This must be his doing."

"So now what do we do?" Lo'ak asks.
"You and your brother will help take some people to the forest, take them back where they will be protected. We will stay here and fight" Jake says.
"I'm not leaving I'm going to fight" Lo'ak says.

"Lo'ak. Don't make me tell you again" Jake says.
"This is my fight too. The reason this has happened is because of what's happened with Tox and Ionia, I cannot stand back. They killed my father" Ni'awtu says.
"And I'm not leaving her" Lo'ak says.

"Jake, Lo'ak is old enough to fight with us" Neytiri says.
"But" Jake looks hesitant.
"I can do this father. I just need you to trust me" Lo'ak says.
Jake looks to Neytiri and she nods.

He looks back at Ni'awtu and Lo'ak and nods, "we will do this together."

Lo'ak goes to visit the spirit tree.

He looks up at it, and smiles before kneeling down, getting his queue.
He connects to the spirit tree, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.
"Eywa. It's me, Lo'ak. As you can see, we will be going to war again. You've been through this with my father too. I am sorry for everything they are doing here. To our home. But I promise I will help to prevent this. But I'm going to need your help. I'm not strong enough to do this on my own" Lo'ak says.

He opens his eyes looking blankly at the spirit tree but can see someone next to him from the corner of his eye.
He turns and sees Ni'awtu standing there.
He disconnects his queue and stands up, walking to her.

"Lo'ak" she placed her hand on his chest.
When she moves it away, he looks down, seeing her hand print on his chest, with paint.
He smiles and looks back up at her, "I'm ready to fight with you Ni'awtu."

She nods, "and I'm so proud of you. But you know Eywa does not pick sides."
He nods, "I know. But she helped my father. And how I hope she will help me" he holds her hand and leans his fourhead to her, "to help us."

Ni'awtu smiles, "I know."
He moves away, and takes out a throat microphone.
"What's this?" Ni'awtu asks.
"It's a throat microphone" Lo'ak points to his own.

He ties it around her neck, before getting the earpiece out from his pouch, putting it into her ear.
She looks at I'm as he puts it in.
"When you need me, press this button" he presses the button on the microphone, making her feel where the button is, "when you speak to me, I will speak back to you. When you need me, I'll be there Ni'awtu."

When Lo'ak walks into his family tent, he sees the others. They all look to his chest, seeing the hand print.
"Oh" Tsireya says as she sees it, knowing it's not hers.

"Did you just meet with Ni'awtu?" Rotxo asks.
He nods, "yes."
"So you like her?" Aonung walks forward.
"Why are you so interested in this?" Lo'ak asks.
"Because. How can you like her when you've given signals to my sister that you like her" Aonung says.

Lo'ak looks to Tsireya, "I did not do that. I've never said I've liked you in that way. Not after the way your mother disrespected me."
"So you're saying that's her fault" Aonung walks forward but Rotxo comes in front, stopping Aonung from fighting with Lo'ak.

Neteyam comes forward, standing next to his brother, "don't twist his words Aonung. That's not what he said."
"Ni'awtu has done nothing but be there for me. Till this day, people still call me half breed. But she's always been there. Made me realise that I mean something. That's why I like her. Tsireya, yes I may have had a crush on. But when I knew it was impossible for us to be together, I left that. I did not want her to be torn between her mother and someone who is seen as a half breed."

Aonung looks down.
"Your clan did nothing but make me feel like an outcast. And even with my own clan, but Ni'awtu has saved me from that. I owe my life to her" Lo'ak says.
He then looks to Tsireya, "I'm sorry if I hurt you. But your mother did not want us together. It will be that way forever."

He then walks past them, going to the back of the tent, where his parents were.
As he walks in, Neytiri looks at him, and she also notices the hand print on his chest.
"Ni'awtu's?" She asks.
Lo'ak nods.
Neytiri smiles, "you remind me of your father."
"I gave her the throat microphone" Lo'ak says.
Jake turns around, "to Ni'awtu?"

Lo'ak nods, "she needed to know that I'm going to be there when she needs me."
"You haven't fought before. Not like this. So let me make this very clear, if I tell you to back down, you back down. Do you understand me?" Jake says.
Lo'ak nods.

Ni'awtu wakes up the next day, seeing nothing but black.
She sits up, realising she's not home.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" She calls out.
No one responds.

She tries moving her hands but realises that they are tied up.
"What's going on" she mutters, "Lo'ak?" She calls out.
She sees a light as someone opens the door.
She looks up, and sees his face.
"You" Ni'awtu sees Ionia's partner.
"Where is he? Where is Tox?" He asks.

"I can't find her anywhere" Lo'ak runs back to Neytiri after frantically searching for Ni'awtu.
"She wouldn't just disappear" Neytiri says and looks to Jake.
"Something is not right" Jake replies.

They see Ionia walking towards them.
"What are you doing here?" Jake asks.
"Am I not allowed back? This is my home" Ionia says.
Lo'ak turns around and looks at her, "you've done something to Ni'awtu haven't you?"

Ionia smirks, "you are so clever."
Lo'ak is about to storm forward but Jake holds onto his arm to stop him.
He looks to hunters nearby who then come and hold onto Ionia.

"What have you done to her Ionia?" Neytiri says.
"You wanted to prove to keep Tox safe but now you've gotten your husband killed, your daughter kidnapped, and your son hiding?" Jake says.

"Give me Tox, and I will let Ni'awtu go" Ionia says.
Lo'ak hisses, as he's getting pulled back by Jake from hitting Ionia in the face.
"Or don't. You're just going to put her in more pain" Ionia shrugs.

"Whoever lays a finger on her, I will kill them" Lo'ak says, "mark my words I will kill them and I will kill you."'
Neytiri walks toward Ionia, "you should be ashamed of yourself."
"I told you. You will regret it" Ionia says.
She looks to the hunters, "take her."

"If you do anything to me you'll only get her killed!" Ionia shouts as she's being dragged away. Lo'ak turns around and presses on the button to speak to Ni'awtu through the throat microphone.

"Ni'awtu, can you hear me?" He says.

Ni'awtu cannot respond but she hears him.
Lo'ak puts his hand on his chest where Ni'awtu's hand print is, "I know you cannot talk. But listen to me. Please, stay strong. I am coming to find you and when i do, I promise I will kill every single one of them. Please, just stay strong."

He sighs and let's go, feeling his hands shake as he's worried about her.
Lo'ak looks to Neytiri, "I'm not backing down. She's out there and she needs me. I'm not going to leave until I find her."
