So twice in one day! What a treat and this is an extra-long one! Be prepared for tissues!
That evening...
I was at the office party for new year's. Serkan wasn't there and I was beginning to get worried. He was supposed to be there too. I walked out on to the balcony, just looking at the stars. "Where are you Serkan?" "Right where I belong" he says as he wraps my arms around me from behind. "I missed you" he says as he kisses my cheek. I smile. I wish this happiness would last forever. "Eda, I wanted to ask you something". I turn around towards him. "Yes..." He looks really nervous. "Is something wrong?" "No, I'm just nervous". "You? Serkan? Nervous? That's a new one. Must be one hell of a question" I smile at him. "The most important one". I look at him questioningly. He looks at me for a few seconds, before dropping down on one knee. I look at him in shock. "Eda. Wil you marry me?" Tears gather in my eyes. I'm about to respond when all of a sudden police show up and take Serkan away. And we're all there left in shock.
At the police station...
I kept pacing up and down the hallway, while we all waited for an update about Serkan. Ceren was working on it, but it seemed to take forever. I sigh and pull a hand through my hair. I'm on the verge of crying. "Eda, let's sit down okay?" Melo asked. I shake my head at her. "Please for the baby, okay?" 'I don't want to, Melo!" I say loudly. A hurt look crosses her face. "I'm sorry, Melo. I didn't mean that". "It's okay". I sigh deeply. Could this night get any worse. Luckily Ceren appears. "What news do you have?" Ayden asks immediately. We all gather closely around Ceren. "Serkan has very serious charges against him". We all look at her expectantly. "They are accusing him of bribery and embezzlement". "What?" We all say in unison. "This is ridiculous. Serkan would never do that" Ayden says. I walk away from the group and I see my grandmother. Anger flares up inside of me and I walk over to her. "You had something to do with this, didn't you?" She doesn't say anything. "Why? Why did you do this?" "I told you, Eda. If you didn't break up with him, that you would regret it. Or more specifically he would regret it". "But what is your end game here?" "I want to build a relationship with you". "And you think this is the best way to do it? That this will put you back into my good graces again?" She doesn't answer me. "Because that won't happen. Ever". "Will see, Eda". She comes closer to me and whispers in my ear: "but remember this. How do you think your parents would feel about this relationship" and with that she walks away. Tears fall from my eyes as all the emotion from the whole night comes over me. I turn back around towards the rest and I see black spots in my vision. I nearly stumble and fall, but someone catches me. I can hear people calling my name, but I can't tell who is calling it. After a little while, my vision starts clearing again. I breathe in deeply a few times. "I think I'm okay again" I say. "Are you sure, Eda? Maybe a doctor should check on you and my grandson". "I think it's okay. Must be all the turmoil of tonight. Can I just get some water please?" "Yes, of course. Seyfi! Go get Eda some water! I still think you should get checked out by a doctor". I shake my head. "No, I'm fine. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow anyway, so..." "Will you at least go home and rest? It will probably do you some good". "I don't want to sleep. I want to wait for news". "That could take a while, Eda" Ceren says. "Just go home and rest and I'll call you if anything changes". I contemplate it. "Fine. I'll go home, but you will call me as soon as you hear anything". Ceren nods. I go home and I crawl into bed and experience a troubled night.
The next day...
I arrive at the office a little late. I had a fitful sleep, which caused me to oversleep. I had a few missed calls and texts from Ceren. Informing me that Serkan had been released. I had some missed calls from Serkan as well, but I would see him at the office. When I went to the meeting room, everyone was getting up to leave. Seems like the meeting is over. "Sorry I'm late" I say as I walk over to Serkan. "I'm so glad that you're out of jail though" I say as I hug him. I sit down in the chair next to him. "I tried calling you last night, Eda. You didn't answer". He looks angry. "Why are you angry?" "Because maybe I wanted my girlfriend to be by my side when I got out". "Well, I wanted that too". His gaze softens a bit. "But your mother thought it was best if I rested after what happened". "After what happened?" "I almost passed out at the police station, so..." "You what? Are you okay?" He says getting out of his chair. He crouches down before me and puts his hand on my stomach. "Yes. It was just the stress from yesterday". "I'm always putting you in stressful situations it seems. I could not live with myself if something happened to you. Either of you". "Nothing has happened and you're out of jail. Everything is alright again". The baby starts kicking at this exact moment. "And I think our son agrees". Serkan smiles at me. "And we have a doctor's appointment anyway this afternoon. So then he can confirm it for you too that the baby is alright".
